Madonna + Maluma 'Medellin'

The comparison to All Saints makes me like it more though - it's definitely a MOOD
 
Are we actually expecting chart related things for this? It would be nice if she could at least glimpse into the top 20 again, but then arguably what's the point. If she can deliver a campaign as cohesive and well received as Kylie's last then job done really. Which for a 60 year old woman is more than acceptable.

I can't see this being a major hit in the UK or North America but if it does well globally in the Latin American market and some European countries then I'd still be happy. Let's see what single 2 sounds like and how the rest of the album will do.
 
It doesn't stand a chance of breaking the top 20 - even if it HAD been released on a sensible day.

But I wouldn't read anything into that. It would need an incredibly focused effort and that doesn't seem to be the approach here if there's another song coming in a fortnight.
 
If this is going to be a hit, it won't matter that it was first released on a Wednesday in this day and age of streaming. So I don't see the problem here. The odds will always be against her at this point and there's no point going over it again and again. Even if she released "Like A Prayer" on a Friday it won't be a hit.

The two-single strategy was rumoured for months. So that does seem to be their focused effort in this context. May work or may not but it's certainly some kind of strategy, which she has lacked for the past ten years.
 
I love her verses, and the cha cha parts. However it feels a bit long, they maybe could have done with cutting his second verse (SHOW ME though).

The radio edit is a minute shorter which should be fine for the airwaves. I get the vibe the intro and outro fit more into the album context...

The beats sound chunkier for sure.

I felt there was a marked difference between the original version on YouTube I heard and the one uploaded to her account as well. The iTunes one was as good as the first, though...
 
I think the fact I was outside listening to it in the warm sun, full of the joy of no work for 6 days added a certain something - but I don't FEEL it the same listening out loud.
 
Ok so upon more listens:

The verses have a beautiful melody. There is something faintly Ray of Light about them. And they sound unmistakably Madonna.

The production's simplicity is definitely welcome. It's definitely a way forward for her.

"Slow down papi" is fun.

I seriously can't tell whether the autotune is MEANT to be transparent or whether the editing is just shoddy. Either way, her voice has never sounded worse on a song.

Obviously self-centered but I wish I could sing along to more of the lyrics, but Maluma's bits are too hard.
 
Of COURSE the vocoder is meant to be that obvious. It wobbles like Cher’s “Believe” in places...
 
Can anyone translate Maluma's lyrics? I have a feeling they have absolutely nothing to do with what Madonna is singing about

Yeah I agree, but I just think it was a weird choice. It made sense when Cher was trying to be a gay space alien, but I don’t see the reasoning here

Well it’s probably still to hide her vocal shortcomings- make it obvious and then it becomes a gimmick rather than an obvious attempt to pull the wool over people’s eyes...

It's no. 1 in 15 countries now on iTunes and youtube audio has nearly 2million views. Feeling very "INVINCIBLE SOLD 4 MILLION IN 3 DAYS!!!" right now

If you want to know what Maluma is saying just copy and paste from any random song he's done in the last 10 years, it's that level of generic - although he does mention Detroit so at least he's aware who he's singing with.

It's basically 'come to Colombia mami and I'll fuck you bueno'.
