The Glasgow one is right next door to Five Guys (who were there first).

What's telling is that Five Guys was, for several decades, a bookshop and GBK was a bank. Also, the major post office just a few paces further is a restaurant now too.

I wonder why they decided to start selling food instead of financial services
 
I guess the problem with somewhere like GBK is that the menu never changes much and, once you’ve been a few times, the novelty wears off. Same with Pat Val, I suppose.
 
GBK has a decent range of veggie stuff so I've been a few times. But the burgers have continually shrunk and the prices remained the same.
 
We take advantage of their lunch menu quite often. They have a deal where if you order from that menu and don’t get it within 15 minutes then the next one is free. I don’t know why because they fail that time test every other time so we’ve had quite a few freebies.
 
Octy mentioned the GBK here being next to Five Guys, but there's also Handmade Burger Co diagonally opposite AND Bread Meats Bread (a local chain) a couple of doors along from that. Utterly ludicrous!
 
We also have Steak, Cattle and Roll in Glasgow. :D

Another local chain we have is BRGR, but they're clearly more aimed at a slightly fancier McDonalds than GBK and the like. I've never been to Five Guys, because the only veggie option they have is a cheese toastie and I'm not paying £6 for that!
 
Debemhams are closing 'up to' 50 stores shortly, with the possibility of Sports Direct and Mike Ashley taking over the closures. :rolleyes:
 
Great. Now I can buy make-up from disinterested teenagers and pick up a giant mug all at the same time!
 
There's nothing like it when you feel like spending a fiver on a chocolate eclair.

Depends on their hygiene standards. Sometimes the premises are so small that they have to forsake a sink and rinse their hands in the toilet bowl, and you’re going to get all sorts of what not in your bloomer :(
 
I've been to one in BLOOMSBURY before they put the prices right up in the ABIDE A WEE APARTMENTS or whatever that glorified ex-council block was called. But only because I had ages to wait for the train to T'North.
 
I have to say that the service at the Spitalfields branch is (or WAS) slow to say the very least. The service and food was quite pleasant when it EVENTUALLY ARRIVED but I’ve not got ALL DAY!
 
We've got two centrally here. One is in the modern shopping mall and is nice enough in a private dentist reception kind of way. The other is in a much nicer area, but has all the glamour and atmosphere of a gulag.
 
Although gulag actually makes it sound FAR MORE ALLURING than the bitter reality.

And away from cakes I find their food WOEFULLY PEDESTRIAN
 
John Lewis is supposedly closing our department store in Southsea (which is not the main shopping area of Portsmouth, but a bit more NICHE), which has been around since the 1870s and apparently had record sales last year, but as one of the smaller shops in their portfolio and after their profit figures overall last year has screamed "RESTRUCTURE", it's for the chop. Stupid thing is, the shopping centre is mainly kept alive by John Lewis and, to a lesser extent, Debenhams, and the latter is surely on its way out anyway, so profits are bound to leap at John Lewis as a result.

This is extremely upsetting...

Bit of a cheek of PATSY VAL to close her original outlet on Old Compton Street I must say. Surely you’d at least keep the grubby flagship store open?
 
The THREE in York somehow stay open. We've still got HMV too. The last refuge of the dying business chain.
 
How bizarre to keep all three open. Still, loads of other great places to go to on Old Compton Street: G-A-Y Bar, Comptons, Ryness, etc.
 
Paperchase have appointed KPMG.

Amazed they have lasted this long, to be honest.
 
That one’s slightly surprising. There are usually people in there. Mind you, they sell some real knick-knack tat :zombie:
 
I love Paperchase but I noticed they were thin on new stock after Christmas - still trying to sell 2019 diaries at full price in mid-January felt a bit off. Makes sense now.
 
They've not actually gone into administration - they're looking at options for store closures and a potential sale though.
 
I’ll quite happily live without their attempts to force a reward card on me (not that it sounds like they’re actually closing down). I was in agonising pain before Christmas and not only did none of the branches have the cards I wanted, but staff at every single one asked whether I had or wanted a reward card. NO I FUCKING DON’T I’M DYING

Which admittedly took all of two seconds to say but STILL :side-eye:
