maybe it’s because I’m getting older by the minute, but I’ve started to actually like some of the fashion

Oasis still had a shop in Glasgow but it was a quarter of the size of the one they had in the 90's. Warehouse has been gone for ages. I assume both were still a big name in Englandshire.
 
Our Oasis closed years back. It was meant to replaced by that dodgy burger company, it never opened and its remained empty for years. Was it Byron?
 
Byron is the one that tends to be styled to look like old pubs isn't it? Or is that just the couple I've seen? Ours closed a while ago. And one of the GBKs.

On the whole, good riddance to ALL those burger places though. I don't see the point of those places which produce food you can make at home for much less money, and make it much nicer. At least make it cheap and utter filth.

Same, terrible fad, glad it's over. Byron were the ones who hired all the undocumented labour and called the pigs on them the day before their pay was due. Which is weapons-grade cuntery.
 
Given I don't eat beef and their alternative options were a bit uninspiring (GBK had a couple of reasonable options) the whole thing mostly passed me by.
 
I keep saying GBK and Byron lost a trick by charging £4 just to have chips on the side - most off putting. We used to eat lunch at GBK quite often as they have a lunch deal where if you don’t get your order within 15 minutes they give you a voucher for the next one to be free. We got a lot of free ones even when they weren’t busy.

There’s a pub here in Portsmouth which does “gourmet burgers” and for ages, the burgers were about £9 and then you paid £4 for chips. Always empty, everyone used to moan about price. Now they charge £12.95 for the meal- packed solid, everyone raves about them.
 
They’re all shit. The Las Iguanas in Gunwharf near me is literally disgusting. It gets packed on Saturday for whatever shit cocktail deal they have on and they just let people fill up the place in between the tables whilst the floor ends up covered in discarded bits of fruit and spilled drinks. Absolutely rotten.
 
How can Bella Italia go under? They charge a fortune for a bowl of cheap pasta with a prawn and a half and they are always full of undiscerning customers!
 
The one in the main shopping area here seems to do well enough, but the city centre one seems to struggle from what I can see. But anyway, aren't they permanently giving discount codes on all the usual sites? I doubt very few people are actually paying £13 for a carbonara.

I can't say I'm disappointed (I'd happily never eat there again), but it was somewhere I'd go with my mother once or twice a year when out on a Sunday, as a compromise between a Wetherspoons and somewhere genuinely nice.

I’ve only been to Bella Italia once and it was AWFUL. Not assisted by my German date making a huge great fuss about not splitting the bill 50/50 because I’d had the temerity to have an espresso and also his mouth reminded me of Nicholas Parsons so good riddance to BOTH

Personally I like to nip to Iceland for a jumbo prawn ring beforehand, get the carrier bag out in Bella Italia and have a good sprinkle :disco:
 
Awful news for the staff, but hopefully some of the locations can eventually open new restaurants in their place.

Bella Italia was particularly bad. I’ve only been a couple of times and usually for convenience of location for something quick. My only memory is ordering a soup with salt as the main ingredient.
 
I went to Bella Italia a few months ago when I had a 10% cashback offer attached to my bank card and it was pretty bad. Out of all the restaurants I've been to since turning vegetarian a couple of years ago, whatever meat alternative they used in the pasta was one of the worst I've tasted.

Will be a tad sadder for Las Iguanas. Went for the first time in January for a friends birthday meal and rather enjoyed it for what it was.
 
Amazingly we have NONE OF THEM. We used to have a Cafe Rogue but that's been a Brazilian steak place for years :disco:
 
I used to quite like Cafe Rouge but thought it was already DEAD - haven't seen one for ages.

Surely we've hit vape shop saturation now, haven't we?

I can't see decent restaurants opening in the place of these closures - or at least it will just be more of the same ilk. Most of the premises now vacant will be barns in shopping centres or on high streets that no interesting little indie could afford.
