I have feelings of nostalgia for The Body Shop, just because in the late 80s, I think practically ALL my female friends had a create your own Body Shop gift basket for their 18th birthdays. And I think the school sixth form permanently reeked of White Musk or Fuzzy Peach.

This news inspired me to check how (Body Shop founder) Anita Roddick's currently doing, as I know she's not been too well over the years.

Turns out she died in 2007

Not sure what's made me smile about this- the way the post is written or @Kratz seemingly liking that OUR NEET is pushing up the daisies...
 
I never understand how some of these bars can’t make a profit. Most of those gay bars are packed to the rafters even on a bloody Wednesday, with the gays flashing their cash right through until the wee smalls.

I know rents are probably high, but surely it can’t be that hard to turn a profit unless you are running it fucking terribly?!

It's the rents. They have absolutely soared in the last 4 years and are what is causing most of the closures we're seeing in the hospitality/entertainments industry. Commercial property is big with the pension funds, y'see and they've tried to cover the inevitable losses due to Covid by ramping everything else up beyond what any sane person could consider reasonable. Food and drink prices are up too, of course.
 
Not sure if Express exists outside America but it was pretty huge. Always hated it though.

If you ever want to feel horrible about yourself just step into an Express and ask for a waist size larger than 32 or a shirt larger than a large SLIM FIT. I asked a sales twink if they had shirts in XL and was told to “check online” and his eyes finished with “FAT FAGGOT”.

The nerve of someone working at EXPRESS being judgemental. The ONE redeeming quality of fast fashion is supposed to be that it's at least cheap, and yet Express was still charging rubbish prices for some of the most poorly fitting crap ever.
 
I went to Exeter yesterday. Completely forgot that their Wilko reopened. I struggle to find the words to explain my joy.

They clearly have a lot less own label products, and a lot of their homeware is now produced for The Range, but essentially, still very much a Wilko.

Had a large cup of pick and mix to celebrate.
 
The Wilko by me turned into a Poundland and is shutting already, to be honest, the Poundland offering was dire, at least Wilkos served as an urban gardening suppliers. Thank fuck for B&M compost.
 
Poundland has been DEAD TO ME every since cozzie livs and inflation killed its everything's-a-pound USP.

I used to go near weekly, and now I don't think I've been this year. #BrokenBritain
 
Not that it's the reason they're closing, but it baffles me that Ted Baker still use their own sizing system. There's already a variance in how different companies interpret S, M, L, etc. so on top, they add the need for a conversion chart from "Ted Size" (1 - 7) to that. If you shop there regularly it's probably not an issue, but I can imagine it quite off-putting for more casual customers.
 
Aww, my best mate got a floral £250 Ted Baker dress and made some alterations to make it her “budget” wedding dress. It was beautiful.
 
I was forced to go to TGI Fridays once for a Xmas thing at my old work and it was bloody awful. I mean, I know, target markets and all that but really, it was a lot of song and dance for some pretty substandard grub.
 
I booked a table and went to TGI Fridays with my nieces before a trip to the cinema earlier this year.

I looked at the prices and left. I think we ended up in Frankie & Benny's instead. Essentially the same food at about 30 - 40% less.
 
Aww I have fond memories of TGIF Friday's but it does seem miraculous it's somehow still going.
 
We went to TGI Fridays for a work lunch once. We were the only people in a cavernous restaurant, it took well over an hour for them to serve the mediocre food and then a cunt former colleague made the waiter cry whilst trying to get a discount. Very much a situation where there were no winners.

I quite liked it for going out for something to eat with my friends in my early 20s. Don't think I'd been in one for nearly 30 years until I thought of them on a whim to take a 7 and 9 year old.

But I genuinely was shocked at the menu and prices. You can go to properly nice indies for less and feel like you've had something cooked with love. I'm sure TGI's cheapest hot dog (which is my kind of level for a cinema trip with children) was £18. In F&B it's like £11. And I refuse to believe TGI are serving me anything better.

I'm quite the fan of a bit of cheap crappy food on occasion. And I also don't resent paying £££ for good food. But I'm not mixing the two.

Same! It was a bit novel, so maybe that's it.

How did they get so expensive though?! I remember paying about $20 USD in 2017 for a 3 course meal!

This is likely to be what has happened to them - as costs have increased so have prices and the balance has tipped too far - as @lolly pointed out, if you ask too much for too little, people will go elsewhere.

And the issue for places like TGI is that they are frequently in shopping centres/retail parks where you will have multiple other options to choose from. If I hadn't gone to F&B there was a Pizza Express, KFC, German Doner Kebab, Wagamama, Yo Sushi to name just the ones on the way there, within a two or three minute walk. When there's so much choice, people will just choose to leave, or not enter in the first place. If it was a 20 minute walk, bus or car journey to an alternative, I'd have probably paid the prices and resented every minute I was there.

I've never been to TGI Fridays, only seen one with a fake yellow taxi outside. It always reminds me of Katy Perry :D
 
I think the last time I went was at GATWICK AIRPORT about 15 years ago. I got a rancid Bloody Mary that tasted like it had been made with TINNED TOMATOES. I asked for some lemon to try and make it palatable and the bartender proceeded to put LIME CORDIAL in it!!!
 
I don't think I've been into a TGI Fridays in about six years, but I wonder if this would also affect the branded products that they have in Iceland. They do some decent vegan chicken that I've bought a couple of times.
 
TGIF, what a blast from the past!

Speaking of, I did go to a Chili's earlier this year, I think it was during January and it was surprisingly decent but still overpriced for stuff that is, mostly, microwavable food.
 
Total Film's next issue will be its last (in physical form).
