It's a shame much of Moopy 2005 was wiped. There must have been some serious shit lost when this premiered.

It's a once-in-a-career sort of song. Shame it missed #1 in the UK. It wasn't even held off by anything especially GOOD, just Ghetto bloody Gospel. :daf:

SUMMER SLOW JAMS aren't my thang, but this is one of those songs that totally transcends its genre. Perfection.

I also love that it gave Mariah such a huge comeback. Every star as big as Mariah deserves a huge comeback.
 
This was the song that turned Mariah into a legend. She can flop with anything she wants these days but this song meant that it didn't matter anymore. For that, I am forever grateful.
 
I don't even remember particularly losing my shit over it - my first thought wasn't "OMG this is AMAZING", it was just an immensly accomplished, contemporary and entirely appropriate track for her.

I love the fact that the chart run was more or less reflective of the sheer quality of the song, as opposed to it being something of a pop culture "moment" - although I suppose in itself her comeback WAS the pop culture moment.
 
Of course, dUb and I know that this wasn't even the best song on the parent album.

I feel like it could do with a bit of a revival in the UK. It feels slightly overlooked these days - possibly because (and I don't mean this in a troll-ish way, honestly) she didn't really capitalise on it as well as she could have.

I think it was somewhat unfortunate to come when it did in terms of the shifting of sales from physical to digital - I'm sure the inclusion of downloads would have led to it being a much bigger hit. I do agree somewhat, it doesn't really feel like it has much legacy, if any, in the UK

I think the 'Heartbreaker' video would definitely help it to be quite well remembered. Maybe 'Honey' too.

I also think 'Always Be My Baby' and 'Anytime You Need A Friend' are quite well known.

Even I barely remember Touch My Body!
 
My DARK SECRET is that, good as I know it is, I don't think this would feature in my Mariah Top 40

i remember when the album title was revealed and i was SO ANGRY at her because people were going to just make MORE FUN OF HER and she'd basically just spunked her big comeback UP THE WALL.

and then she had this up her sleeve and the relief was immense. :disco:

not grateful for the reminder that it's been EIGHT YEARS since i used to lipsynch to this in my darkened bedroom however.

The album title is still absurd. It's a shame in a way, as it might be taken more seriously if it had just been called Emancipation... But I suppose the Mimi bit captured people's attention.
