This is for my peoples who just lost somebody
Your best friend, your baby, your Queen or your lady

Somewhat appropriate for the moment. As a single it was a bit of a campaign killer but what do you think of it?

She should have just waited 14 years to release it

Forever tainted by being chosen as undeserved second single over Migrate, but I’ve chosen we love everybody because it’s funny as a meme

I love it dearly. It's kinda on the wrong side of corny, but it's still lovely.

I just noticed this has crossed 100m on Spotify which loads of her other singles haven't

STEALTH SMASH HIT WONDER

I still really like it. Yes, it's soppy as all fuck but there's still something so quintessentially Mariah about it.

It’s easily one of her worst singles

It’s very her but I honestly can’t stand it

every comment about this song is true. it's cynical, it's awful, it's heartfelt, it's gorgeous, it's silly and it's secretly quite good.

Still an abomination. More so given the hits that were waiting in the wings but squandered once this made everything go tits up.

I absolutely adore Bye Bye these days. Divorced from it utterly derailing her comeback momentum, it's a lovely little ballad, and I love that cheap late 00s production for the nostalgia.

I think the reality is that she would not have sustained the wave much longer anyway. The guard was changing at that time (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Gaga, Adele all emerging). Like Hard Candy, E=MC was a very solid pop album by 2008 standards. And then you have Obsessed, which - as streaming shows - should have smashed in 2009, but whatever it did on the charts was in spite of her career dynamic at the time, not thanks to it.

I agree with this. the thing is she did so well with TEOM because classic R&B was having a major revival (see also Mary J Blige) and she made an album that was retro R&B infused with modern radio pop, and it was a classic, dahling. right record, right time. then by 2008 a lot of R&B artists had started moving toward pop, and Mariah just isn't really a popstar. she's an R&B diva who can flirt with pop but isn't that convincing in full pop drag. the album was mid tier Mimi and had bad single choices. I think it did as well as it was ever going to regardless of what they released though.

in many ways it was her Hard Candy, and Bye Bye was her Spanish Lesson. :disco:

The album had very good pop-infused songs but I agree with the rest of your post, Jark; e=mc2 literally had pop banger after pop banger yet our Mimi got scared and picked those sleep-inducing ballads... i'm that chick, migrate, side effects, and ooc were right there sitting in the vault waiting to be a smash but she (or her team, but let’s be real it was her) copped out and chose bye bye and i stay in love instead worst single choices in her entire discography. I Felt SICK.

It's more fun for Millennial gays to imagine hits that never were anyway. Migrate and I'm That Chick will always be those girls.

I Wish You Well is the emotional center imo

Last Kiss and Love Story are filler but in retrospect they provide a nuanced account of her music. It's fun hearing both her ups and downs.
