OK so it's probably one of only two Madonna albums with a -1 but no 11

Can you guess the other one?

:eyes:

Some of it is 'fun' dirge like TUTR and GAYLUV
But some of it is OFFENSIVE dirge like SupaSTAR and Bidet Song
And for that,
It's unforgivable

However, I maintain that 'Master Plate' is her best ballad since 'Nothing Fails' AND THENCEFORTH.

I love it, lots of memories for me, being a huge fan this was the first time I saw her live in Hyde Park 2012, this album is a fave of mine like American Life is - not a critical or fan favourite but the songs I like on it are similar - the sentimental ones.

08 Girl Gone Wild - I class this with 'Celebration' the track - bit throwaway at the time, would kill for this now.
07 Gang Bang - Genius, shite, novelty, themed. Worked well within the show and the gun theme she had going on. I guess?
08 I'm Addicted - #thetouristhepromo- the perf of this from MDNA would translate straight to TV promo :disco:
09 Turn Up The Radio - Love this, basic as hell but just love it, and love the Sharon Stone look in the video. All round yes from me :disco:
08 Superstar - See above, basic, but quite sentimental. Like the melody in this one.
06 GAYLUV - Fun for Superbowl, the video was good :disco: Track, not so much
06 Some Girls - Decent track I guess, not my bag
07 I Don't Give A - see above
06 I'm A Sinner - we are getting filler and rushed at this point aren't we.
10 Love Spent - This should have been the lead single with a superb video that starts off not dissimilar to Mel B's 'Feels so Good' at the start, but Madonna ends up in a English Castle finalising the divorce. Amazing track.
10 Masterpiece - I agree with the Golden Globes, sorry Elton
08 Falling Free - nice closer

10 Beautiful Killer
10 Fucked Up - Madonna at her haunting best in the verses :disco:

I couldn’t even rate this, I can’t remember it. Haven’t listened to it fully since it came out.

Overall, from memory, a generous 5/10

time doesn't make something that was shit suddenly passable and not everything deserves a reappraisal. certainly not MDNA. I took I Fucked Up and ran!

Masterpiece was such a shit, ultra-reductive ballad moment from the woman who once gave us Live to Tell. such rubbish lyrics and grating melodies. hate! zero!

Love Spent could have been the best song on here if not for that vocal and the shockingly tinny production from Orbit (who was really phoning it in here)

Masterpiece is dreadful lyrically, yes, but it’s melodically beautiful. I love it.

As for Love Spent, I kind of agree that it’s undercooked for the reasons @Jark says. But far worse is the “this will do” production thrown at the likes of Turn Up The Radio.

Exactly what I feel about I Fucked Up. Awful from start to finish

Madonna's last true album was Confessions on a Dance Floor, in 2005.

MDNA, and all her other post-2005 albums, are mere b-sides/rarities/demo albums. They are not canon.

:) #SelfPreservation

I like a fair bit of Rebel Heart (mostly in demo form) but overall I agree.

I think you could piece together a decent album from the last four though :D

I've been revisiting the latter half of her discography lately and while this album was a mixed bag some of these are still max tracks like Some Girls, Love Spent and I'm a Sinner. THAT'S what the album should've been. One of her main problems since this album has been just too many cooks in the kitchen. Even Madame X suffered from it (among other things). Hard Candy almost sounds like a masterpiece now considering what came after.

Anyway, where is @Suedehead with the annual Madame X reappraisal thread.:HannahAngry:

These still hold up:

Gang Bang
I'm Addcited
I'm A Sinner
Some Girls
Love Spent
Masterpiece
Falling Free
Beautiful Killer

I Fucked Up is nice too, but I cringe at the lyric. I can get on fine with Turn Up The Radio and even find Superstar somewhat charming, but she should be striving for what Love Spent delivers at the 2:10 mark - the judicious luxury gives me a pearl necklace just thinking about it.

I think how this album was formed and how she presented it with the feeble lead single truly kicked herself off the pedestal and she's struggled ever since despite the numerous flashes of promise.

I fucked Up absolutely clears everything else on MDNA. it's well produced, well written, fun, has heart, she sounds good...

the other good-ish tracks, even Love Spent, have some disastrous vocals and mixing going on that make them tough to listen to

I agree with this list though Gang Bang just screams trend chasing with that dubstep breakdown (did Orbit even approve of this? he must've been dying inside), it's still fun I guess. The ballads are ok but inessential.

I don't actually mind GAYLUV. I'm not saying I WANTED it but it's not the horrible piece of shit some people make it out to be. I even like the dubsteppish breakdown, it isn't so banal here. And sometimes I just like to randomly burst into NOW MOVE as if Nicki had just seen the DISGUSTANG video.

The best songs are on the bonus disc, but I still think this is a great album by most pop artists standards.

Gang Bang with a Quentin Tarantino video as the lead single would have been quite something.

GAYL had potential had they fully pursued its slightly Bohemian Like You direction of the demo. I hate the video, but it was kind of fun in it's bizarre Desperate Real Housewives skit kind of way.

And "Glandular fever vocals" - I remember saying that at the time actually :D

I love Love Spent, Masterpiece and Falling Free. Girl Gone Wild is fun, but it's not really Madonna (aka God) tier.
