If Only You is truly astonishing. Sadly it looks like Danny has had a rough few years, lost a few friends, is on new medication which really makes him tired all the time and honestly although he knows Covid has been rough on everyone, it's been really bad for him, you know?
 
We're all having our fun now. He's definitely going to be public enemy number one on Moopy this time next week once he's hot favourite in the odds *after* performing

I listened to a Jessica interview this week and here are the notable tidbits:
  • She will have four dancers dancing around her
  • The song is uptempo and unlike any of her other entries - it’s more serious
  • She thinks she is in a really difficult semi, but she has a great song
  • She claims to have come up with that moment in Fame - Give Me Your Love where they kind of go GIVE - ME — YOUR LOVE before the last chorus, but was never credited
  • Kalla Natter was a horrendous experience because everyone called her a whore
  • She rejected Evighet by Carola because she was only half-listening to the demo, but in 2006 she basically had a choice between Evighet and Jag Ljuger Sa Bra. She says that it wouldn’t have made any difference what she chose because her Jag Ljuger Sa Bra wouldn’t have had the iconic punchiness of Linda Bengtzing’s, and her Evighet wouldn’t have made it out of a semi-final!
  • She accepts Can’t Hurt Me Now is widely forgotten, even by her
  • She loves Kom
  • She is obsessed with Melodifestivalen, and watched it devoutly (this is of note because lots of people, especially music acts, claim not to follow when they’re not in it)
 
The Kalla Nätter situation was truly horrid. I remember it well. It was ill-advised staging, for sure, but she got utterly roasted for it and one of the greatest songs in MF history didn’t even reach the final.

Remember the days when shit like that went out in the semi and it didn’t really matter though, loves? WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.

and worst of all, she says after that all the big plans for an accompanying album were thrown into disarray, which based on the strength of the second single is an absolute gay DISASTER :evil:

For a long time, I thought it was even BETTER.

But the “perfect slut drop” moment of “I min fantasi” wins out.

I wouldn’t read too much into that. A couple of them seem to go to every writers’ camp in Western Europe.
 
I have NO idea which way this week could go pre-snippets. I certainly don’t think Danny’s a lock for DTF. Felix, Loreen, FO&O etc. have all proved that in the past few years. The only one I feel somewhat safe in predicting is Lillasyster which is clearly destined to go nowhere.

That said I think Paul, Danny and Arvingarna are likely locks for the top four, with Kadiatou, Nathalie and Jessica fighting it out for the last slot, with the latter more likely to qualify. Although I could see Jessica going direkt just as much as I see her finishing about fifth :(
 
Hasn’t Jessica got a ridiculously good track record for qualifying against the odds? Hopefully Sweden will still recognise her with the new face, and feel a bit of sympathy for her struggle against whatever disease is slowly turning her into a ninja turtle.
 
The great Kalla Nätter tragedy of 2006 will forever remain EMBEDDED in my brain.

Also, it was the last year when the whole thing wasn't live-streamed (because of the Turin Winter Olympics LOL) so it only increased the WTF-ness of the whole situation because no one outside of Sweden was able to see the CHAIR & HOTPANTS FIASKOT and thus the 5th place seemed even more ridiculous. Sandra Dahlberg's situation the week after was similar.

I loved his slightly misplaced ambition and frustration at being the first loser / coming second but I was even more tickled by how much it riled up the Swedish audience.
 
On paper Kadiatou and Nathalie should be of the same caliber but this year Kadiatou’s has all the buzz, it’s supposed to be a bop and is backed up well by the record company. Nathalie’s entry is not considered to be strong, granted I’ve heard neither myself.
