1. Browsing Collection - alright here's my yearly #1 :disco:
2. Tone - I am so ready to fall in right behind this, this sounds like it could be well fabulous in full
3. Niello & Lisa - hey this sounds fun from the clip if nothing else
4. Liamoo - If we have to do Sweden autopilot then this is a great way to do it

5. Samira Manners - a little too twee
6. John Lundvik - I at least respect singing in Swedish
7. Alvaro - Nothing new, reductively so

good heat, I have 3 I really want to root for here and Liamoo I have no issue with.
 
GREAT top two but that's about it

1 - Bluffin - Oh this is STRONG! I mean yes it would be absolutely ridiculous if Sweden sent this, but imo the best way for them to deal with those complaints is to lean into it and just go full synthetic here (I'm thinking having him turn into a robot/shooting it ENTIRELY IN CGI/having a guest vocal moment from a drum machine if possible)

2 - Suave - An offensive, reductive, and narrow-minded depiction of Hispanic heterosexuality. I'm already getting excited imagining the faces John Lundvik is gonna make if this hot shit beats him to the final on Sat :disco:

3 - My Way - This CHEAP SHIT! God it's exactly the sort of thing I'd expect to have woken up one Sunday in March 2015 and find out, like, Moldova had chosen it the night before. Can't wait for it to not go off at all and have to surgically insert a key change into it two days later, before @Pingu shouts at me for putting it in a beat late and sends a hit squad to my house

4 - Face In The Crowd - Love a good flashback to mid-00s My Chemical Romance/the Virginia Tech massacre :disco:

5 - I Want To Be Loved - Don't we all hun but if you wanted it for this you should've turned up in 2011

6 - Tror du att jag bryr mig - I just know immediately I'm never going to listen to this again after this month. :D :( at Lisa Ajax already being relegated to the SARA LI/PANDORA slot on her tracks

7 - John Lundvik - Between this, My Turn, that French entry that hot guy missed a bullet on and swerved after 2020 got cancelled, and the rumours behind the scenes that Christer had a strop at John for entering Bigger Than Us in 2019 because it was nowhere near good enough and basically had to HORSEWHIP HIM to send something elevated (which eventually became Too Late For Love), I'm starting to get a sense John Lundvik's tastes may potentially trend towards the exceptionally basic :D

Yeah sorry everyone but by the looks of the reviews, the clip of My Way is more or less as big as it gets.
 
The GAG of 'Bigger Than Us' being rightly deemed terrible by Christer and then still greedily snapped up by the BBC. We can't even pick the right MF rejects :D
 
My initial thoughts:

1. Liamoo - the title had me worried that it would be faux rnb nonsense so I’m delighted that it is clubby nonsense instead. Very Sweden in its imperial phase - “you WILL vote for this!” Dance U Off but not fronted by Anton DuBeke???

2. Niello & Lisa - I think this works really well and reminds me in concept of the delightful Mirakel by Sara Li and her father. I guess Lisa Ajax was at a bit of a crossroads in terms of what to do next, so this is like the straight people version of Shirley’s Angels.

3. Tone - I don’t mind if there’s no key change, everything about this is just great. It’s a disposable pop track that is given deeper meaning by its context and a rightful pimp slot. I feel proud of Sweden for continually promoting LGBT rights, particularly in this contest.

4. Alvaro - here she comes, little miss thing. Jokes aside, Alvaro’s story is one of defiance and bravery. Many people don’t know this but Alvaro suffers from Twinkititus, which is a condition whereby the sufferer stays stuck in a twink body and mindset all their life. They try and not be a twink but they literally can’t.

5. Browsing Collection - say, you kids havent seen any Crucified Barbaras around here have you?

Bluffin does sound very strong. Definitely seems like a contender based on the clip, though I remember him as being a bit gormless from that duet and I've wiped his first entry from my mind.

I see they are sticking with that bloody tape player for the clips this week.

LIAMOO - Obvious and deserved finalist, although I'm not sure giving him the Victor Crone edit and just letting him wobble around on his own under the guise of dancing is the wisest choice.

The song is great but there is ZERO chemistry there, although that could be down to our Lis having the cold eyes of an angler fish at all times.

SAMIRA - There's something of the braided underarm hair about her and I'd be fully behind this were it not for the fuckawful accent.

ALVARO - An ill-advised J-Pop makeunder aside, this is rollicking good fun and deserves to qualify.

BROWSING COLLECTION - EVERYTHING :disco: Chaotic, questionably performed and straight out of a late-00s Romanian selection. Fuck me, I love it.

JOHN - If this was being performed by a woman it would be last in everyone's predictions. Doesn't deserve to qualify but probably will :(

TONE - Such a static performance doesn't suit the song AT ALL. I'm hoping for some big reveal from underneath that Carmen Sandiego jacket.
 
why do I get the feeling that Samira Manners is gonna to start shouting MARCIA MARCIA MARCIA during her ode to her boyfriend, George Glass?
 
Oh dear god at that hideous facial hair (the ‘beard’ I mean) - I can’t be watching that.
 
I'm guessing no Cornelia style moment tonight from the people/clips but it seems like a fun selection anyway.
