Melodifestivalen 2024: Deltävling Three (Växjö)

we just listened so here is a combined BALANCED perspective:

1. Jacqline - Effortless - not sure about the vocal but this is undeniably a great pop song. This is a good example of why Melodifestivalen is so great because it won’t win, but for any other country it would make an incredible Eurovision entry that would get fawned over (pending a good performance)

2. Clara K - Aldrig Mer - an autumnal, reflective song that I think has a lot of legs post-contest. This will connect with a lot of people but I think hit-wise it doesn’t quite go to the expected place in the chorus, and I can’t decide right now whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

3. Kim C - Take My Breath Away - I’m so happy that great intro is not just discarded but appears to be throughout the song. Need to hear more to decide but it’s going in a promising direction.

4. Klaudy - För Dig - sorry, my policy on sadboi ballads hasn’t changed. Sorry it happened but stay AWAY from my pop girls :oi:

5. Gunilla - I Won’t Shake - first impressions gave us both JOY; this is Boney M thrown into a country woodchipper. Gunilla’s gorgeous baritone vocal battles against the multi-faceted backing track, blending to create action and drama. Scathing lyrics are Gunilla’s main weapon, and I can’t wait to see how this turns out :disco:

6. Cazzi - Give My Heart a Break - for both of us this stands out as the best song. Weightless, hopeful and the sound of Spring starting after a long winter. Only a minute of it, but already it takes you to a different place. This is the song I want to die falling asleep in the bathtub too. THANKS CAZZI!

Overall, this is the strongest heat so far for me, with a majority of songs I think I would be excited to keep and replay.
 
I haven't been able to hear most of the clips because SVT's entire site has been down for about half an hour, but the professed disappointment around Jacqline's clip (which has thankfully been uploaded to Twitter) is baffling me.
 
I haven't been able to listen to the songs so here is an UNBALANCED perspective

1 - Cazzi - as I was contemplating listening to this, I heard a knock at my door. Answering, I saw the most beautiful 84 year old woman with the most hideous neck tattoo vaping (cotton candy pink lemonade doomsday blue flavour). She passed me her full supply of Lost Marys, a free ticket with bed and board to a three star hotel in Copenhagen in May, and the number of the kindest, most sexually attractive homosexual within a 500 metre radius. She gave me a wink and told me she was going to the final this Saturday and just wanted to pass it forward

2 - Gunilla - it is my firm and solid view that some of you have lost the idea of what FUN is. I've got no idea whether this sociopathic woman's entry is any good or not but I felt like it offered me an ideal launching pad to do a hit-and-run insult on you all

3 - Jacqline -

I don't CARE if it's just Here Comes The Night - you were all PISSING YOUR PANTIES THE FIRST TIME!

4 - Kim Cesarion - I understand why you're all inclined to be disappointed in this but all I'm gonna say is you liked it LAST time that guy you texted hadn't died, so maybe it's time to start applying a KANTIAN UNIVERSAL PRINCIPLE HERE

5 - Clare Klingonstrum - ok we get it you did drugs

6 - Klaudy - actually I take back what I said about the Kantian universal principle
 
Okay I've heard them all now and this is a GOOD heat - Jacqline is 1st for me in the real world, and Cazzi Opeia is giving me distinct echoes of VITAMIN C
 
Was looking forward to Jacquline and Cazzi from the reviews but it sounds like it’s going to be another CRAP heat.
 
Really disappointed by Cazzi based on the clip.

Jackie is decent but comparisons to a song as imperial as ‘Here Comes the Night’ are incredibly flattering.

The odds say Marcus & Martinus but I can’t really see Sweden sending a pair of Norwegians to represent them during a hosting year, unless the song is just undeniable.

I’d say a lifetime achievement coronation for Danny Saucedo is looking to be the most likely outcome.
 
'Effortless' is the most excited that a clip has made me so far this year.

Gunilla sounds like it's trying too hard to be funny and just coming across cringe instead.

Jacqline apparently won the jury preselection. Of course that’s only 15 songs as the other half were invited.
 
This was going to be the first week I watched live but it sounds like that might not be a good idea.
 
Love that she wanted sexy cowboy backing dancers but her budget clearly only extended to some random guys she found on the Stockholm Metro, or at best one of her less glamorous sister’s awkward sons.

Hearing things like this has always slightly worried me since Heartstrings supposedly did the same all those years ago.

It does feel like pop songs with any kind of a purpose from new females tend to have a really rough ride at Melodifestivalen (especially when there’s a more generic equivalent from a more experienced male performer in the same heat… Kim’s presence is concerning me) and I’m still not convinced this won’t go the same way as Janet Leon, Kadiatou and even Klara Hammarström first time around.

I’ve seen the rehearsal clip and I am relieved to see she’s reasonably solid, but it’s hardly striking me as a star is born moment.
 
Cazzi’s performance clip is more encouraging. As for Jacqueline - I think that title says it all.
 
Hoping Clara K can scrape into the Run-off vote, gain momentum on Spotify and carry herself into the Final.
 
From the admittedly very vague info I've been able to find, it appears that the points awarded in the run-off vote are going to be based on raw votes rather than age-group splits, so I reckon that's going to favour acts that skew slightly younger. I'm guessing Ms Snusk should be highly fancied based on that, probably along with someone from Heat 5.
 
Record label managers of five competing artists are apparently despondent as Gunilla is stealing all of the press attention away from the others.

In the last few days Aftonbladet has published 10 articles about Gunilla, 6 about Fröken Snusk and 1 each for Clara and Samir & Viktor.

How can you complain about not getting publicity if you're not even committed enough to shoehorn your own name into your song title?
