Obviously I'm aware of the Monkees but they were very much of their time. I recall the Vic Reeves cover and Marge Simpson's fandom.

I remember their TV show being repeated in children's programming in the 80s as much as the music. My mum was always a fan of the Jimmy Saville vintage chart shows as well and Daydream Believer always a favourite.

I'm very fond of The Monkees and I'm sad to hear this. A great songwriter and musician.
