Sorry for the delay...I've had a look and I'm leaving these as is - one is a discussion thread, the other is a poll and they're both well advanced. Merging them would leave a mess.

May be a silly question, but is it possible to ban me from the C*ronav*s thread? I try to tell myself not to look at it, but I do and invariably don't feel the better for it.

I know I could/should just practice some self-control but if there's a way to have it not viewable for me, I'd be all for it.
 
I don't think it's a silly question at all. I'm doing okay with the main thread here, but have muted it on Twitter as it wasn't doing me any good.

This place is increasingly potentially going to become a refuge over the coming weeks I suspect, so I think trying to accommodate people's wishes so it's a place they want to come to is entirely reasonable.

I think @Suedey alluded to similar feelings the other day (apologies if I've misinterpreted it), and I suspect others may well feel the same.

This is me too! After Suedey posted I have been mostly avoiding it and feel better for it. Although it's annoying because sometimes I want to say something in the thread.
 
I don't like the posts that are like 'oh my friends mother's cousin twice removed works in the industry and everyone is going to die'. They're just scaremongering and I really think people should avoid posting stuff like that.
 
The answer to the direct question is no.

I can exclude people from forums though, so an option is to either remove access to that forum or set up a coronavirus forum.

Regardless of what you do with forums, I think we need some sort of general consensus that we don't post scaremongering posts, or that they are done via spoiler.

That's basically it. There is a lot more I could have said in that thread but I really didn't want to for various reasons.

I don't necessarily personally want to be banned from it, but I definitely don't want anything to do with that thread anymore.

I think set up a separate forum and if someone doesn't want to see that thread they ask to be removed from it. That way they're not excluded from the whole current affairs section.

Yeah, it's "be sensible". There's always nonsense and scaremongering going around Twitter etc and I would hope that Moopy would be better than reposting that kind of stuff.

The trouble is that we have (what used to be) reputable news agencies doing it now as the media clamours for our attention.

I'm finding it difficult as well. I think we all are.
 
The information war is very real right now. I support the idea of Moopy pushing fact over fiction in terms of this event.

Although should very much be able to share their fears etc.
 
I'll look into setting up a new forum when my break comes round later this morning.

We need to take proper care of each other.
