I did it to A Level and have dabbled since but nowhere near enough to speak it fluently.

I'd be working in a British school so work wouldn't be a problem. And the hope is that I have a foundation so would find it easier to get more confident in Spanish than I could have ever hoped to in Italian.

I’d say yes to Mallorca too - it’ll be a different experience to the big city one you had last year but more importantly I’d much rather come and visit you there so it’s a no brainer really. :)

From my own experience of being an immigrant on a Balearic Island, I found that its very easy to make friends. Ibiza is a lot small than Majorca and Palma certainly had a bigger city vibe than any of our towns so you'd probably have a bigger scene to tap into. Generally speaking there was a very thriving expat community and plenty to do with others in Ibiza and for the most part all the people we met were pretty sound, obvs you get the odd weirdo but that's true anywhere.

The biggest difference I'd say is the seasonality. It'll be less pronounced but similar on Majorca that the island is very busy in the summer and quiet in the winter. It's not always a bad thing, I used to really enjoy the winters at first in Ibiza as life slowed to a very pedestrian place but it also got to be a bit of a burden sometimes. I think if/when we go back I'd like to ensure we have some sort of solid plan to take as much time out in the winter as possible. That wont be an issue in Madrid obvs.

Madrid is an OK city but I don't know if I'd live there, its stupidly hot in the summer, very busy and there's no sea to escape to. Personally I'd pick Palma over Madrid every time. I think you'll get more out of Palma, Madrid just felt like any other big city in the world to be honest.
 
And for what its worth Palma is a lot better in terms of year round international connections (probably my biggest bugbear in Ibiza especially as I was commuting back to the UK a lot) and being a bigger Island it probably won't feel like you've been everywhere if you stay for 4-5 years like we did.

I think I'm going to accept the Mallorca offer. Madrid school told me to let them know before accepting anything else but I suppose there'll still be time before signing a contract. Palma definitely sounds more me.

Felicidades, @Chlammy - Palma is a lovely city. What I will say though is Catalan is the main language there, sure, everyone speaks Spanish but they don't really use it so much in day to day life, especially now the island is ruled by a Pro-Catalan party. But you should still be able to get by ok, and Catalan is related to Spanish (though it's closer to French and Italian), so I don't think it would be too hard for you to pick it up.

Madrid is an amazing city too though. @Alla will be able to tell you more though.

In Ibiza pretty much everyone spoke Spanish, Catalan/Ibicenco and English. Being English and speaking a bit of Spanish, even as shit as I did, was always well received!

Oh Moopy, my iTunes is being homophobic, someone help me...

my computer is recognising my phone, but iTunes is not having any of it.
I wonder if it’s anything to do with it’s trust issues, every time I plug it in now, it asks me to trust the computer, which it never used to.

it’s homophobic because I want to sync Chromatica onto my phone, I’ve never listened to it before :(
 
Ok well after faffing for hours I just fixed it with an updated driver (not the one all the advice told me about)

I do. At least it's called iTunes on my laptop but Apple Music on my phone and iPad. I can't get rid of it because there's lots of stuff in there that I've ripped myself from vinyl so although they won't play on my mobile devices they will on the laptop.
