Russian authorities are responding to an incident in which a suspected dangerous infection was released as a result of a laboratory accident in Siberia and a researcher died.

The incident occurred at the Anti-Plague Research Institute in Shelekhov, near Irkutsk, according to Russian state media TASS.

It is unclear exactly what was released, according to the state agency that handles infectious disease, Rospotrebnadzor. One person – a laboratory worker – is said to have died in the incident after being diagnosed with a pneumonia of “unknown” origin.

That happened to me once. It was an infection, get on the blower to yr GP or at least call 111.

I lived with a teacher once. He showed us a video of him teaching a class once, this is decades back I assume you can't do that now - and it looked like actual hell on earth - he was very much one of those teachers who thinks if I'm really really nice maybe they will let me live - but they did everything but stick him on a pyre and light it. Not the profession for me - so I salute you.
