Mondays grows weary at the sack of knits

I’ve woken up full of energy today, I think the benefits of Dry January have finally kicked in :disco: Can’t wait to wreck it all in two weeks.

I’m doing DJ too. I wouldn’t say I’m full of energy but the bonus of waking up semi-refreshed and actually DOING things on a Sunday is quite the boon.

I’m four Proseccos and a Bloody Mary down in my airport lounge and I have no intention of stopping now. Blue Monday? WHAT BLUE MONDAY?

I've booked to go to a Blue Monday comedy gig tonight, and I really CANNOT BE ARSED at the thought of going straight from work to meeting a friend to not getting home until after 11.

I only left the house about 15 minutes ago and I just want to be back in bed with every fibre of my being.
 
I'm on jury service this week but I'm not needed today so a wee trudge to sorting office through a fresh dusting of snow began the day and now I'm in the office with a quiet-ish day ahead of me.
 
I did jury service twice by the age of 30, and nothing since.

Sometimes I think I'd like to do it again, other times I remember how harrowing I found it the second time.
 
I absolutely do not want to do it, especially not at the high court. I have a low threshold for these things. I've been called 4 times in the last 6 or 7 years but it's come to nothing and I'd like to keep it that way.
 
Albeit right now I don’t think I could do it really- I’d have to refuse given my work situation.

I can't deal with vivid depictions of violence, let alone the photographic evidence. Let's face it, in Glasgow, that's what you're getting, not high value embezzlement!
 
I had a horrific case at the high court the last time I was selected to do jury duty. It really put me off ever wanting to do it again.

Given the nature of it, I was surprised at the lack of support or care given to jury members afterwards. You’re exposed to all sorts graphic testimony and evidence without warning, then discharged and sent on your way.

You can ask to change the date within the next 12 months, if you have a good reason.

Or you can ask to be excused, but for that there need to be exceptional circumstances.
 
I remember for the long case I was on, when the jury was called in, they purposely called in a lot more than the usual 15 that the final 12 are chosen from. The judge said that was because they knew the case was going to take several weeks, so there may be jurors who had good reason for not being able to commit for that period. Some jurors indicated they couldn't and the reason was accepted, others had their reasons rejected.
 
Someone just spent £450 on our shop on a corporate credit card from Belize. Ballsy.
 
I got called for jury duty. I really wanted to do it, but I was dismissed by a random lot because they'd booked too many. That was after anyone who didn't want to do it were given leave. Not sure if that's normal. I got a morning off in Chelmsford on a lovely sunny day, so that was that.

I’ve always wanted to do this, couple of my colleagues have been called.

Plus I’m sure an ex-colleague of mine has been picked twice?!
 
This weekend was the first in ages where I've felt positive about how wintery it is. The brightness helps.

What it does to my face and eyes and nose are another story, but I'd forgotten that I quite like January.
 
Cold bright Jan > Grey wet Jan for sure. We watch the sunrise over the moors from our top floor, and they've been stunning recently. (And late enough I actually see them.)

That's totally what I'm afraid of.
 
I dread jury duty as a contractor because the paltry expense payments would leave me seriously out of pocket. You can get insurance, but being a nerd I calculated it's not worth it.

I always assumed ‘not working would leave me DESTITUTE’ would be a sufficient excuse?!
