Moopy Family Fortunes 2021 - Round 7 - RESULTS AT 16:45

Can't believe I'm still on top after all after that mediocre showing! Fucking Ecuador.

Is the French word for jam similar to that? Because it is here and I used to get them confused all the time; marmalade is far from sweet.
4. Something sweet that you might put on toast

@Dark Carnival were you going for a stereotypical English answer? OOPS :D

What the fuck! I genuinely thought jam/marmalade was a US/UK English thing!!

Wherever possible, i did look out for answers which could be misinterpreted in a different language from non-native English speakers, but jam and marmalade are so distinct in English that I didn't notice that would be plausable.

1. A moon in our solar system, other than Earth’s Moon

Did the right thing by going for BASIC BITCH Europa, coz that's obviously what you lot are too. When obviously the queen of solar system moons is Enceladus! Ok Europa you supposedly have a subsurface ocean (that we're yet to see!), so happy for you beb, but meanwhile Enceladus has an ocean and is literally spewing it out for us! QUEEN!

Still?

You've taken my place ya bastard.
Yes re-reading it I think I meant "despite"... the rest of the sentence doesn't make much sense either. But anyway thanks for hosting!

Yeah, but we don't have an specific word for marmalade, we would call it "bitter jam". Same in French and probably many other languages. We don't eat that here.
So why was DC's answer marmalade then? Should have just said jam. Or bitter jam.

Either way, wikipedia is your friend if you're unsure.

If i have to keep researching about who random female singer is, then other people can get up on their jam knowledge :D

Because we don't have a word for marmalade, and in French you would use marmalade for jam. In Spanish jam is "mermelada", so similar, and we would use the same word for both. I totally understand why you couldn't guess that because for you is so common, I'm aware of it because they pick up here the oranges to make your marmalade, but nobody here would guess it's 2 different things.

Also when you learn english as a foreigner and you come across the word jam, the teacher will say it means marmelada. They use it as synonyms because they know we lack a word for whatever difference they have, which I am yet to understand. Am assuming it's the taste?

When learning english we were taught they are synonyms.

Yes, marmalade (orange only) tastes really bitter, jam is the sweet one you know. And they teach you that simply because we don't have marmalade here (well, you could find it, and I even had it), but it's very rare and I don't know anybody who eats that.
