Here we go - 7 of you have been brave enough to effectively be employed by me and Octy.

The candidates are:

BIG RON
BUTTERTART
FLOPPET
IGUANA
SOLDI
VOR
ZENGIRAFFE

Manifestos of the candidates can be read below.

I'm happy to carry on being a stable and reliable mod, just getting on with it quietly and deffos not slagging you all off in the ultra exclusive VIP mod forums.
I think I've been very good and excellent at moderating. I've made some tough calls, from issuing warnings to cherished spambots, to merging the threads nobody else dared merge. I would like to think I'm approachable and that people feel able to speak to me if they've a problem. I'd also like to think I'm reliable, conscientious and nurturing. I'm not, as the sheer number of my children who've become wards of the state will attest to, but I like to think it nonetheless.
I would say I've been a useful, visible mod since I seized power in April. Vote for some of the other ones as well because they're proper nice, but make sure you vote for me most of all.
I've been reconsidering whether to put myself forward. Moopy has got me through some proper shite over the years for which I will always be grateful, as well as all the lovely people I've "met" on here and I want to give something back if I can. Obviously Octy's your technical lady but I'm thinking maybe we could use a gobshite female to back her up when the testosterone hits the fan in the mod forum.

My main worry is that I'm unable to be around during the day Monday to Friday other than dropping the odd sneaky stealth-post when work allows and then I have other stuff to do in the evenings and weekends so I'm really not sure that I can devote a reasonable amount of time to it and would feel awful if I got it over Soldi or ZenGiraffe when, let's face it, they've been very active lately and are more than willing to put the time and effort in and I feel like all I did to contribute during lockdown was took part in the Scavenger Hunt. I haven't specifically named VoR, big ron or Iguana in this bit because I reckon they're all shoo-ins. I wouldn't want to be voted in at the expense of somebody who wants to put the effort in and then be castigated down the line for not pulling my weight, as it were. Every time there's going to be a vote somebody will ask Indie to give them the stats and I'm going to look like I'm just doing it for all of the glory and perks. There's always the worry that I'm going to do something wrong and completely bugger it up because that's what usually happens when I try to do anything with computers.

So I'll stand for mod if you all promise not to have a go at me if I get it because I'm technologically incompetent/hardly ever here/don't know who some Eurov*sion person is/break the site. That's assuming anybody would vote for me in the first place after I've just laid out my utter shitness and a multitude of reasons not to vote for me in this post :D
I would like to be a Moopy mod! I feel the recent resurgence of Moopy requires mods who are present and committed and I can offer both in bucket loads (insert joke about loads). Here are my CREDS:
  • I ran the very successful A Song For Moopy: Iguana Edition last month, which generated a whopping 6,710 posts in its dedicated threads. I purposely made it a short, sharp contest and I feel it was run professionally and with a lot of heart!

  • I run the Moopy Instagram account for us all to perv over each other and I was delighted that a few posters have pointed to it as one of their lockdown highlights.

  • I subscribed for a paid Vimeo account to host the A Song For Moopy recaps and it was also used to upload the Moopyvision final. I'm happy to keep this account running so future competitions can upload to it without encountering YouTube blocking issues.
Here is my vision for an Iguana modship:
  • I will be quick and efficient in responding to sensible Mod requests. I will continue to be an active poster and will be on the lookout for threads that can be split to encourage more posts, or polls that can be added to encourage engagement, without intruding on the natural flow of those threads.

  • I will take a sensible approach to modding, focussing on doing what I can to help make Moopy run seamlessly.

  • I will encourage and support games and contests. These are increasingly central to the forum and I think mods should be active in supporting posters who are running them as and when they want support.

HELLO I’M GOING TO STAND

Yes I know some of you are perhaps a bit cautious about letting someone that’s been here for about two minutes have a position of power, but I feel I’ve got what it takes and here’s why darling’s;
  • Firstly, when am I not around? I mean there was that time I caught a four hour flight home and @Iguana started planning the funeral, but other than that I’m pretty much here all day, all night, ready for your service.
  • In the unlikely event I’m not around when something goes tits up, I’ve got plenty of you on various forms of social media, so I’m only a quick message away if something needs sorting and no other mods are around.
  • I’m very much part of the 2020 COVID-19 era Moopy community. I’d like to add that I ran a VERY SUCCESSFUL A Song For Moopy a mere month after I joined. I have plenty of ideas up my very long sleeve in terms of events to run in the future, and I actively try and take part in anything that’s going on. I think it’d be nice to have a few members up there that actively take part in the day to day proceedings and events.
  • I feel that I’m able to solve confrontation pretty fairly. I’m certainly not one for following the pack and will fight my corner if I believe someone is being unfairly intimidated/bullied, even if the rest of the mod/admin team were to disagree with me.
  • And finally, I FUCKING LOVE THIS PLACE and ALL OF YOU so I’d be chuffed to help this place chug along smoothly.
Thanks for reading if you got this far loves :) x

Hi guys. I would like to be re-elected as your moderator in 2020. As funky pointed out, I'm an old hand at this by now, and I believe in doing quiet, solid work to make the forum better for everybody. I always try not to be heavy handed, but nary a day goes by when I don't make some small change, whether it be splitting a thread, fixing a broken YouTube link or adding a poll. That's my role first and foremost, not to police you but to make your experience as a poster just a little bit smoother.

On the occasions when drama does kick off, I think I've demonstrated that I'm not somebody who's willing to circle the wagons and shut down dissenting voices. I'm happy to have difficult conversations, to reflect on my own behaviour and potential unconscious biases, and those of others. If you feel marginalised, bullied or ignored, whoever you are, you can come to me. I'll fight your corner - privately or publicly.

I love Moopy because it's a unique place on the internet that provides a safe space for so many of us to share our lives and our passions. In-jokes and edgy humour will always be a defining characteristic, and I'll defend that too where appropriate. But I believe strongly that we have to always be evolving as well. A diverse mod team is a huge part of safeguarding that process. So while I encourage you to vote for me, I do also hope that we see some fresh blood in the mix, particular reflecting posters of colour, which has been a notable blind spot we've had for a while. I don't wish to put the burden of changing that on any single poster, but if we do manage to field some candidates who can help us to broaden the debate, I would strongly encourage you to vote for them as well.

Thank you for reading, and please don't ask for my tax returns.
After successfully running an unsuccessful admin campaign (successfully), I would like to bring that experience to modding:
  • I am happy to do the bread and butter thread management tasks as needed.
  • I can make quick and reasoned decisions and will communicate them well.
  • I am thick skinned. If a decision proves controversial I won't take criticism too personally, though of course will take differing views and feedback on board and will not flounce or strop (publicly)
  • Should a public flounce or flop occur, I'll endeavour to make it entertaining at the very least. :emoji_upside_down:
  • I have broadly superfluous to this role tech skills, though I would enjoy the chance to prove that I am a trustworthy individual for any future opportunities.
  • As a newer moopy member, I hope to bring a fresh energy to proceedings.

Because we've not enough candidates for a full blown vote, we'll do a confidence vote.

PM me with YES or NO against EACH of the seven names. If a candidate gets more than 50% YES, then they're in. If all of them do, all of them get to serve as a mod. If none of them do, well, fuck.

Voting closes 8PM on THURSDAY 8th of OCTOBER.

Star did say a similar thing in the admin thread about "if there's a tie for third place..." (although without the mucky language)

You know Indie's hidden manifesto pledge message?

If you read Star's post, you'll find 'boom bye bye to a batty boy head'.

Does voting yes to all of them equal not voting at all?

You're still contributing to the 50% approval, aren't you? It's not like if someone else voted NO to all the votes cancel each other out. On those two votes, everyone would still have 50% approval. So voting yes to all is still very much worth it, I'd say.

I wonder if anyone is going to be snide and vote no for any of the candidates.

Surely that's the whole point of this? Or can you vote YES to a few candidates only and ABSTAIN for the rest?

INTERNATIONAL ELECTION OBSERVERS (@Indie) to clarify pls.

That is indeed the whole point. Everyone who has voted so far has got it.

If you abstain on a poster I'll count it as a no.

Actively voting NO on someone feels much more aggressive than just not voting for them.
Yeah, that's why I called it snide. It would basically be telling someone 'Look, I know we need a load of mods and I didn't bother to put myself up for election, but I still don't want you to get the job.'

What if you're not happy with how a current mod undertook their duties and don't want them to get another term? I don't see what's wrong with voting based on someone's record.

I'm still going to say snide, because it's a great word I don't use often enough.

The effect is identical - if you give Indie a list of 5 names, he'll put a YES against those 5 and a NO next to the other two.
