Moopy Moderator Election 2020 - nominations thread - CLOSES SATURDAY MIDNIGHT (1 Viewer)

This call for diversity in the mod team is almost offensive. We don’t need to fill a certain quota just to make the optics for your forum look good. :zombie:

Having said that, and just to prove my point, I’d like to nominate myself (and be terrible at the job) as your only POC mod.

A vote for Raspeberry is a vote for diversity, but also for more autocratic moderation, fuck ups and banishment of anything that displeases me (which we all know is mostly everything). :)

Thankyou to those of you who suggested me but I won't be running. I don't even go in the music forums, never mind separate threads so the only place I'll be likely to notice something is in the Moop. I'd be as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

Don’t come online for the afternoon and I have missed the grand entrance and departure of OUR DEAR SAL’.

What did she DO?

It really isn’t about optics. Racist tag-gate showed up some major blind spots in the mod forum, and I don’t really understand how broadening the range of perspectives could be anything but a good thing?

I certainly wasn’t intending to engage in tokenism and I apologise if that’s how it came across.

I’d like to think that in a virtual forum, our race or colour shouldn’t matter.

Look, Iguana is a whole one per cent Vietnamese or Chinese. I think we've got diversity covered as long as he's elected.
If it counts, I am distantly related to chief Sitting Bull

(It is also, to the best of my knowledge, actually true!)

(that said I do see no harm in what kala said about representation given past discussions, but let's see who puts themselves forward)

@Soldi - if a sad lonely mancunian got through the security at sign up and posted on here asking for advice on life, what would you tell them?

Rewatch Eurovision 1999 with a bottle of rum and wine and you’ll feel 100x better :disco:

Does that mean we're a throuple?

Let's face it, Mr Star is the third wheel really. We've been together since we took your nephew out and people thought we were his parents. Plus that time you checked out of a hotel we stayed at and they called you Mr Star :D

My great, great x however many cousin is Marie Antoinette. Fair enough, my famous ancestor is from a time when people were so white they powdered their faces to become even whiter so it's not going to do MUCH for diversity, but it's a nice little factoid I thought I'd share.

It wasn't just ME in the mod team who suggested we get a bit of diversity on the team, there were a few issues in the past 6 months which arose, which I won't go into, but we probably would have benefited if we hadn't been so homogeneous, and the concensus was we need to diversify.

I'm the only one bringing it up because everyone else is restanding, so it's not going to affect my chances seeing as all the other nominees are cis white males. But we absolutely should be voting on peoples ability and what they can bring to the mod team. I just think, it would be good to get some other opinions because there are situations that may arise which others may be able to provide a different perspective on.

I am absolutely in favour of diversity in the mod team (although diversity comes in many forms, not just gender, colour and sexuality). But we can't force people to apply, and by and large there is a lot of homogeneity in terms of the make up of the forum, so what can you do.

I think the call for diversity is well-meaning and understood, and, of course, difficult to achieve for reasons that Indie said.

But the reason why that call is being made in the first place is because folk just weren't listened to. I wouldn't have called out the makeup of the mods and admin had I not felt like I was treated with a thinly veiled contempt at times. OR that my feelings were less important than others.

Thank you to funky and the many other posters who have messaged me asking me to run again. It is something that I will have to really think about it following what was a very humiliating evening for me just earlier this week. Currently in prayer and counsel.

The things I do for love.
