Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 10: Bulgaria, France & Georgia

I'm so ready for Sofi to win this.

DO REM DEM DEM DAY

2nd: Sofi Marinova - Love Unlimited (134pts)

Oh how I love this fabulous witch. If sheer self belief alone could win Eurovision, I fully imagine Queen sofi she would have sent Loreen on an early flight back to Stockholm.

Just look at the way she works the crowd in that first instrumental break! Choreo, tuning, any kind of staging concept - who needs it darlink? :disco: Sofi was so confident in her chances that she summarily dismissed any backing support - less risk of some peon attempting to pull focus from the STAR TURN - plugged in her rattiest weave and hit the stage.

To ensure maximum pan-European radio play, the song features snatches of Arabic, Azerbaijani, English, French, Greek, Italian, Romani, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish and Turkish in addition to the Bulgarian verses. She just Larves Ewe So March, in any language! (Well, most - sorry Germany but Ich liebe dich just doesn't roll off the tongue!)

This has the distinction of being the only song to fall victim to a TIE for 10th place, with that impertinent twink Tooji stealing the lady's place in the final on some technicality or other. Obviously she had him kneecapped immediately afterwards, but alas not quickly enough to take her rightful place.

2 x 12 (Penelope, Win The Game)
2 x 0 (Buttertart, dmlaw - we do not larve ewe march at all for this )

1st: Poli Genova - If Love Was a Crime (202pts)

A clear, predictable, though no less deserving victory for Poli 2.0, who can probably make a strong case for having the best actual pop song in the highly competitive 2016 Eurovision final, though she never quite found a voting hook to match the Russia/Ukraine face-off or Dami's vocal masterclass for Australia.

Still, for an unpretentious pop performance this hits pretty much every mark to perfection. You can really sense the joy on Poli's side in actually having something competitive, and she predictably sells it for all it's worth, right down to the slightly bow-legged dancing. Keep an eye out for Austria 2018's Cesar Sampson as one of the backing singers at the end, too.

This is almost certainly in my top 5 Eurovision songs from the past few years that I keep going back to. О, дай ми любовта!

11 x 12 (Raining on Me, Suomi, Alla, Dark Carnival, Kevin, Ag, Jacques, Ill Advised, Pingu, Kalabaliken, VoR)
1 x 2 (Win The Game)

I still play Crime quite a bit. Surely a competitor for the final of this.

Also Alla now that you’ve got what you wanted I would ask that you stop gaslighting me - on top of this post there’s one in the Russia thread where you refer to my appearance. You are now the one carrying this on so I’d politely ask you to stop because otherwise I will have to complain to the mods.

The desperation to try to interact with me? Not gonna happen.

I’m not desperate to interact with you, I’m asking you politely to stop pulling my name into threads and referring to me/throw shade at me.

Gays I LEAVE FOR DINNER for five minutes and WTG is RESORTING TO HOMOPHOBIA after his prime queen misses out (IMAGINE HOW DC FEELS EVERY TIME HE LOSES EVERY WEEK!) and ALLA IS HAVING BORING FIGHTS WITH SUOMI AGAIN?

And this is you lot BEFORE QUARANTINE?! SOFI IS JUDGING YOU

I just can't wait!

Sorry I'm late, lads. I've been watching the WRESTLING to top up the heterosexual levels before coming in here to squeal about riddled old Bulgarian trollops.

A few posts in, and I'm aghast to discover that the Suomi/Alla beef hasn't been squashed yet. How many more have to die before a ceasefire is called?

Omg I can’t believe that utter turd Bones beat Beautiful Mess! BM is SUCH a good pop song, and the mournful instrumental bits are just :disco:

I’m amazed Kristian hasn’t been back for another shot already tbh. He was obviously VERY APPEALING to televoters.

I don't have any fight Penny, like if I can't say anything after all that happened, for god's sake. But yes, I have no option but using the ignore button. BYE.

You know I had no idea so many artists came back for a second ago. I was mildly agog at Queen Poli.

I know! Although I watch every year and paid closer attention pre-contest in recent years, I've totally forgot about most of the first half of the decade. I mean that's probably a decade of too much booze, but also a whole heap of amazing shit (and shit shit) to even try to remember.

Needless to say I will do my VERY best to NEVER, EVER forget Love Unlimited and all its juicy joys :disco:

Bones was fucking amazing. The wide shot of them all during the chorus gave me proper goose pimples. If only they didn't have the hefty member looming over the rest of the group like a laminated carnival grotesque.

To briefly GO BACK to Love Unlimited - the true ARTISTIC PEAK has to be the moment at the end where she starts hollering ACTIVELY OUT OF TIME WITH THE MUSIC :disco:
Given that she couldn't afford background vocalists and had to do helself all the vocals at the same time, it was quite understandable.

Not much to say about Bulgaria except Poli 2.0 was in one of the best contests ever and might well have been runner up in most other years.

And Beautiful Mess is brilliant...he sings the fuck out of it and the instrumental is gorgeous. Not every male ballad needs to be dismissed on account of it being sung by someone with a cock (well, highly questionable with Kristian but STILL)

10th: Amaury Vassili - Sognu (38pts)

Eurovision-2011-Les-resultats-!-La-France-completement-depassee.jpg

It's hard to credit now, but this was considered such an overwhelming favourite in the build-up to the 2011 Contest, that many speculated that it was barely worthy any of the other countries even turning up... :eyes:

Evidently things didn't QUITE play out that way. I suppose opera wasn't quite as tried and tested at Eurovision at the time, and he was a big star on home turf, but it's still a bit of a stretch to imagine a song with no obvious hook from a country that hadn't had a win in over 30 years was going to be the behemoth people imagined.

Maybe it was his gallic good looks that threw people off - I don't think I've ever seen a Eurovision contestant who looks quite so much like a Disney Prince before or since. Sadly, his sweaty upper lip and cold murderer's eyes sort of undermined the effect on the night.

It's one thing to underperform, but 15th must have been SO humiliating given the hype. :D

I believe this is one of only two Eurovision songs to be performed in the Corsican language. The other, appropriately enough, was the vastly superior 'Mama Corsica'.

1 x 10 (David 50000
6 x 0 (VoR, Kalabaliken, Pingu, Jacques, wurst, Suomi)
