Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 12: Albania, Belgium & Spain (1 Viewer)

It's Albania, disappointment is in their genes (and song structure).

To be fair, I was rushing through this tripe today. Mr Bushpepa probably wasn't the very worst but it didn't have much of anything about it to throw a few chips at either.

3rd: Rona Nishilu - Suus (133pts)

THE feelgood bop of Eurovision 2012. :disco:

I remain a touch baffled that this did SO well on the night. I mean, it's obviously quite striking, but considering it was on early, 5th seems quite miraculous, really. Especially considering she appeared to treat traditional measures of tunefulness and not singing like you're birthing a small cow as abstract concepts.

And yet, here we are. The authenticity obviously struck a major chord and Albania finally cracked the top 5 for the first (and, to date, last) time ever. Consequently, versions of this are all they'll ever send for all eternity. I have a feeling they need to draft her in to teach those other listless bitches the meaning of true PAIN. I can imagine her now, ripping out Lindita's extensions, forcing Hersi Matmuja to do squats in the rain and putting matchsticks in Eneda's eyes while she watches images of Kosovar ethnic cleansing. It'd be a public service, really.

3 x 12 (Madison, sewerynsven, Raining on Me)
1 x 0 (Buttertart)

I just hope my 12 is not coming next, but I think it will :vomit:

Edit: oh I wasn't expecting that!

I still don't understand how she won the Barbara Dex when she finished 5th.

Look at the HATE in her eyes, the Jabba's Palace hair, the weird blue scarf that makes it look like she's giving a piggyback to a midget wearing flares.

She doesn't need a microphone, she needs a holy water enema.

So, Juliana with the best song against Jonida with a highly distracting peasant dress. These Albanian lasses really are a boon to a lonely pervert.

What's the connection?
The original idea was to give the award to those artists with an awful dress that ruined their performance in some way. Euroexperts correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that was the concept. But now they just vote for any dress they don't like, I think Loreen was in the top 5 (to win the B. Dex) that year.

I fucking adore that screaming trash. There really is nothing else like it and yes there absolutely is a song structure in there, she's just so consumed with...well, whatever eats Albanians up, that it becomes irrelevant.

I don't think I've seen anything like it at Eurovision. Literally shrieking for attention over and over and weirdly nailing it.

Juliana for the win! But the Albanian version was so much better, what was she thinking.

Pretty sure the roots are long forgotten.

OK, I'm going to admit that this was a bit on the late side for a start time.

2nd: Jonida Maliqi - Ktheju Tokës (149pts)

Now for me, this is how you do one of these belty Albanian ballads RIGHT. Fabulous frock, a bewitching hint of ethnic flute and a genuine emotional core instead of just meaningless shouting. Like most of Moopy, I was very pleasantly surprised to see this qualify last year, as it's the kind of song that tends to very easily get lost in the shuffle.

Albania's original stage concept for this involved a CGI eagle literally appearing to fly out of Jonida's foof, but thankfully once they actually saw how it looked they toned it down. The final product feels more or less perfectly judged, and for an entry that was never going to be all that competitive, I think they took it as far as could realistically have been expected. Good work!

1st: Juliana Pasha - It's All About You (188pts)

Considering their national selection now seems set up to exclusively churn out 18th century murder ballads, I'm fascinated by the weird two year blip from 09-10 when Albania temporarily discovered the keys to the bannger cupboard. What happened?

This is essentially Britney Spears 'Womaniser' as performed by a Pokemon Gym Leader (Grass type), but despite the staging budget not extending beyond some quite fabulous Proto-Mamas and a chubby, possibly coked-up violinist, this really feels worthy of a mid-grade Nordic entry!

Albania officially joined accession talks to join the EU this past week, and I'm hoping a sniff of Western riches encourages them to go back to this kind of affable fare from time to time.

Anyway, I can finally go to bed.

Thanks VoR. I know you may think we're all greedy and ungrateful but remember we'd all be dead by now if not for you. Whether you see this as an accomplishment or a missed opportunity is entirely your choice.

The winner is...fine, but very un-Albanian. Which I suppose doesn't say much for people's opinions on their authentic aural pleasures :D

Poor Jonida! Definitely a huge surprise that year. She qualified and they gave her the death slot, so to come 17th after that is quite impressive

A passable winner as it was good by Albanian standards, but really nothing they sent in the past decade could match the delight of "Carry Me In Your Dreams" :(

Disgusted that "I'm Alive" couldn't crack the top 5 and even received ZERO from multiple people. It was an easy stand-out for me
