Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 5: Azerbaijan, Ireland & Slovenia

Weekend roll call. This is another week where I'll probably have to close it fairly sharpish 12.00noon on Sunday so I can hit the boozer in time for the Greyhound races.

Are you actually watching Greyhound racing?

I'm going to a MILITANT VEGAN's birthday celebrations if you must know!

Honestly, first @Superstylin' thinks I'm actually accusing him of white supremacy and now you think I'm complicit in animal abuse. This game is destroying my life AND my reputation!

Done. Azerbaijan and Slovenia were very enjoyable. Ireland has 1 great song.

Azerbaijan voting done. More disappointing than I hoped. As much dreariness as there was excitement.

Right, I'm going in on Ireland as well. I may only give them a minute each.

I found Ireland similar to Latvia, in that there were only two I wanted to vote for. Except those two don't even begin to compare to the Latvian two. And I'd forgotten that Ireland was responsible for the most disgusting Eurovision performance ever.

Slovenia was a mini revelation. I don't think there was anything truly amazing there, but they were all varying degrees of enjoyable, and I agree with VoR that they may well stumble upon greatness at some point.

I was surprised to find that I really liked two of the Slovenian entries. I had no recollection of them whatsoever before this week.

Thanks love, that's me voted now :disco:

Thanks all! You can have an extra hour or so if needed, I have some things to do first.

In terms of "shower of shit" countries how did I forget IRELAND.

I don't even like my 12 pointer much either which so far is a record :D

I have graciously voted now (far too late obviously, so I’m not expecting my 12 for the stunning, much-loved ‘22’ to count) and can audibly hear @VoR tutting :tongueout:

Slovenia however :disco:

Always interesting to see what they bring, and nothing is completely unlistenable except for one and it most certainly isn't 2010! They're definitely going to pull a winner from their peculiar mixed bag cauldron one day soon.

Should I start with Azerbaijan or Slovenia? Seems both have their fans this round.

Obviously Ireland for the mid-results lull.

Prediction: I'll be the only one giving 12 to that AZ song (unless Jacques or WTG join me for some madness) :disco:

I hope everyone HAS dressed up for the occasion. Obviously I’m in a freshly rinsed Mariette wig, sequinned gown and espadrilles :disco:

(AKA trackies, a hoodie and no knickers)

My Azeri 12 is probably in my top 10 of the decade although said person didn't exactly sell it as they might :side-eye:

Oh mine too! Although said person might have sold it slightly better :side-eye:

SLOVENIA

10th: Omar Naber - On My Way (28pts)

Omar Naber's 2005 Eurovision entry Stop is a genuinely excellent track that could probably be listed among the all-time Semi Final injustices (it surely would've made it under the two semi system from 2008 onwards).

Perhaps the Slovenes felt the same. Why else would they send this horrid musical theatre dirge 12 years later? Naber himself had apparently gone from mildly cute fixer-upper to rapey uncle in the intervening years, his unblinking murderer eyes and excessive gesticulating adding nothing good to this thoroughly off-putting mix.

Highest Mark: 3 (Dark Carnival, Pingu, dmlaw, Superstylin')
4 x 0 (Suomi, Jacques, Kevin, Raining On Me,
