Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 5: Azerbaijan, Ireland & Slovenia

Sorry to go back to Ireland, but result for Together. Genuinely I think it’s a beautiful song, and the performance was lush.

The queer coding in that performance had ALL THE SUBTLETY OF A GAY BASHING! I think I YELPED the first time I saw her in the dress SWANNING OVER to him as a VOLCANO OF ROSE PETALS WENT OFF inside that glass box!

I liked this, THAT DRESS. Allegedly the same amount of fabric than Esma Redžepova's dress a few years later.
 
Anyway since then he's apparently "moved to Los Angeles with his wife" and grown a beard :eyes: READ BETWEEN THE LINES

Hungry for a win from the get, Azerbaijan allegedly spent £1 million on this entry, so a mere 5th place must have been frustrating. The fact that it was choreographed by Beyonce's stage director was much ballyhooed at the time, though I'm not exactly sure they got their money's worth on that front. :D

"Alright Safura, so we've got Aykhan from accounts doing some cartwheels in the background, you just totter your way to the catwalk in the final chorus and do your best not to trip. That'll be £750,000, thanks pet"

They really did try and through everything at Drip Drop, but something was missing on stage.

It really wasn't much of an opener really, was it? Another one that really needed to be in the last 5 to do the business.

Tied on points AND twelves with Safura, I had to go down to the tens to split the difference. This one is perhaps Azerbaijan's most unabashed pop banger and all the better for it.

17th feels a BIT of an injustice for such a MAX TRACK, but those weren't exactly in short supply at the 2016 Contest. Inevitably, it was initially demoed for Melodifestivalen by minor Moopy hate figure Molly Pettersson Hammar.

I recall they tried to market her as some kind of Kardashian rival with her own APP where you could track her every thought and movement. I wonder if it's still active...

I'm sure the poor cow's been shot dead by now and packed up as cheap supermarket meat but by GOD the sheer melodrama of it all, it's everything that was great about music in 2010 where every diva and half arsed popstrel was chucking out storming big pop ballads like this.

All of it FAR beyond Safura's capabilities of course god love her.

Oh god THAT? Of course she was just as incapable as Safura but I resent the chorus of Miracle, it's completely flat and the song promises much more - it's no better than that Greek entry "Is This Love" or whatever it was called, in that sense.

3rd: AISEL - X My Heart (151pts)

Now this one was most definitely taken on a long drive into a dark forest afterwards, being Azerbaijan's only NON QUALIFIER to date.

Hard to say where things went wrong, exactly. It is another where the choreography seems to boil down to poor AISEL frantically trotting from one mark to the next. They could have given her an actual dress to wear as well instead of shoving the poor cow out in just her underthings.

In what is possibly my looniest Euroloon moment (well, aside from actually nearly dying when Euphoria won) I had this T-shirt printed up by a friend for my trip to Lisbon. Sadly, much like AISEL, it didn't survive the hot wash. :(
