Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 9: Australia, Cyprus & Lithuania

I shan't pre-empt the final discussions TOO much but OH! It really IS so LUSCIOUSLY SLAGGY!

[bayoneted Frisian voice] EARLY IN THE MORNIN EARLY IN THE MORNIN! :disco: :disco:

Done. Lithuania wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be.

Lithuania is the only country with a hint of intrigue about it this week. The other two are - let's face it - a race for silver. The winners are pretty much inevitable.

Imagine my delight at rushing in to Cyprus thinking I could downgrade that cold copy imposter known as TAMPTA to cellar levels where she belongs, only to discover that's actually impossible when faced with a sea of forgotten, true Cypriot horrors :gross:

Lithuania made me want to nip to the shop for a bottle of cheap rum, but I'll just get therapy instead. When I have a meltdown at work, which is frankly imminent anyway, they'll HAVE to give me some sort of compassionate leave when I'm sobbing about running with lions and shoes called love and pain :(

Also I don't know if it's an accent thing but is there any country that's managed to sound as FLAT and off key? It's almost like a national requirement!

I actually like everything in the Cypriot selection to varying degrees. That 2011 one really doesn't get enough credit for how WTF it is. :D

I just don't know how to rank all of the Lithuanian beige.

I genuinely didn't know how to rate it and still don't.

There's only about four songs I actively dislike but having forgotten most of it, I think I went in pre-empting a solid banger and ballad nation which is not EXACTLY the reality across the decade!

My favourite story about Tamta and Replay is that they requested their gimmick to be that they perform the song repeatedly after every two or three entries. Absolutely fuming that the EBU declined that.

Even the worst Australian song is better than various countries managed in the whole decade.

So I have other commitments today. Results may be in the evening, but there's a strong possibility it'll be split over Monday/Tuesday evening. SORRY GAYS

I have voted :disco:

WHAT A SLOG some of that was. I legit must have erased some of those perfs from my mind.

My hangover us veering towards an existential crisis. I need this.

VoR has BLOOD ON HIS HANDS.
This. I’m pretty sure I’m actually clinically dead, but until I know whether Jon Lilygreen and the Islanders achieved a medal placing my soul can never find peace.

I’ll have time to do Australia at 7. Lithuania and Cyprus tomorrow.

Fun fact: the end of this performance features my only onscreen Eurovision appearance to date. What a shame it had to be feigning enthusiasm for this dirge.

In fairness, the thought process behind it made a lot of sense. Photogenic youngster, already had a European hit under his belt (with It's Gotta Be You), and a track that essentially answered the far from burning question "What would it sound like if Sam Smith went to Eurovision?"

The answer, unsurprisingly enough, is REALLY FUCKING BORING. The only spark of life on this being a very unfortunate attempted glory note. Juries were all over it regardless, but the public gave it a hard pass, with two points from Denmark the only thing rescuing him from the null points hall of fame.

Nice hair though, lovely hair.
