Moopyvision Karaoke Contest 2020 - The Final (RESULTS TONIGHT AT 7PM)

My song was decided quickly, but I did do some preliminary filming for an entirely animal crossing based video in my basement tv studio, with a track that didn't have any kazoos on it at all. The idea was scrapped mid production though.
 
The idea was also explored of having an entirely Zelda Ocarina version, but it wasn't sustainable for three minutes.

I had a quick look at recent male soulful belters and certified dUb faves Nobody But You and Too Late For Love but they were both beyond me :oi: Other than that, considered Lights & Shadows as mentioned before but couldn’t quite face trying to isolate the harmonies and all that

Video-wise, once I settled on Gravity I had planned to stick my head on Zlata’s and move it around with her the whole time :D

Which of our artistes created their own backing track? Obviously ZenGiraffe, Iguana and cwej. Was Chlammy actually playing the penny whistle? Anyone else?
 
My two other ideas were as follows:

Equinox - Bones (Bulgaria, 2018) The concept would have been basically a Zoom duet with three different cobs, two male ones and a drag one done up as the Sia-lookalike. I decided that it was too much work recording three different vocal tracks, plus I would've had to shave :angry:

Dihaj - Skeletons (Azerbaijan, 2017) This would've had a similar concept to the video I actually produced, but with a darker visual tone similar to cwej's presentation. Basically I would've got one of these and had it haunt me around the flat (it peeking round corners, finding it in drawers etc). The climax would've had me putting it on and climbing a ladder, natch.
 
Chlammy - a very strong opener, clearly a lot of effort went into thinking about how this song could be interpreted, rather than just covered. My Sami heritage was grateful that you did not attempt a joik, and delighted that you reached for the recorder. Clearly you love this song, and that came through.

SDF - I enjoyed how you stuck through it all and never gave up. I know for a fact that Michael Rice would enjoy seeing this video, so let’s hope Zu-Klara is feeling generous tonight and will unite him from her basement so our lad can see it!

PopLife - incredible scenes. The mystery and intrigue created when one chooses to present themselves purely through audio.

ZenGiraffe - not gonna lie, this was one of my favourites, but that’s not a surprise when you consider my love of real music and statements. Very powerful sense that I was being both conned and rewarded.

COB - you made full use of the visual effect that was you sat on the toilet. The narrative in your music video made it one of the most compelling - I’d be hard pressed to distinguish between this and any of late nineties pop star Leilani’s music videos.

Iguana - you chose a great song and you were very professional. Like Lara Fabian herself, there’s an air about your performance that suggests you’d have a total meltdown if you were to lose this competition, and you know what I’m like when it comes to inserting 50p coins into the drama machine!

dUb - a totally committed, almost unapologetic reading of a Eurovision almost-classic. I felt with this performance that you understood the pivotal role that the singer’s hand played in her success.

Beverley - one of Mrs Suomi’s faves. Sure, you may not have had the best voice

cwej - one of the only contestants to reinterpret the song on their own terms. I have been in your flat and you love nothing more than to play with your sugar bowl as you stalk around in black and white. As your former songwriting partner I ask that you don’t forget me when you hit the big time with this, because from now on I don’t even recognise Imaani’s trashy original!

Diddy - well, you gave it your all. I felt safe in your hands as it is clear you know how to entertain. Had that shirt reveal been of an empty picture frame my 12 points would be undisputedly yours.

If I come 4th to Celine like Lara did there will be hell to pay :eyes:
 
In case it got a bit LOST RE: the voting, if you don't want to be very very 'arsh and reveal everyone's 1's and 2's I think @Iguana's idea of just revealing the 8, 10 and 12 of every voter would work. Then adding all the remaining scores in one hit in reverse order maybe.

I quite like this idea! It also means I don't have to make loads and loads of scoreboard graphics, I think.

Oh I was going to do that, then realised I’d have to move EVERY SCORE up and down the board so instead I’m not going to BOTHER with that and work on a really EXCITING voting order

@Ag my flat isn’t that pokey, on the right are some sliding doors that have the bedroom so it all opens out. I don’t have a garden or anything, this is Japan!

I thought it would be better to close the sliding doors to have a neutral wall rather than see all the shit I moved in there :D
 
As for deleted scenes, I had always planned to do Vola, in my mind I had wig reveals too but I don’t have any wigs so...

I was going to have a multiple fan reveal for my scavenger hunt video though, but I realised Turning Japanese wasn’t a number 1 :(

Well as reigning champion for the last 6 consecutive years it’s about time I handed over my crown. :)

I’d forgotten about some of the excellent vox there are among Moopists but I could find a reason to vote for almost all of these - although we’re giving points points to all of them so I’m sure I’ll find a reason for the remaining few as well.

Dannii’s “IS THIS A SINGING COMPETITION” is repeating itself in my head as I try and arrange my votes.

After a difficult recording, KK Slider decided to unwind by singing along to his favourite Eurovision classic.



It was never going to be my entry, but whacking KK slider on songs was really fun.
