Love unwittingly getting the best version of the debut AoB album when in Florida that year. Shame they had so much record label meddling and that Linn got spooked by fame or just got mega jealous the stalker wanted Jenny's throat and not hers, I'm sure those are the reasons she was gone tomorrow but.
 
I can't believe I didn't even refer to Happy Nation (US Version), but I'll save my ninth speech on how it's the best pop album of all time, for later.

Holy shit, it's Insomnia for the gays. Rollo before Faithless and singer Collette gave a song too good for the top 10.

Fun fact: she's from my home city and performed here two days ago. If only I knew that THE MAYORS VARIETY SHOW would feature such a legendary performer!



 
94 Nicki Minaj - Starships (2012)

I was hoping that since Moya passed at the moment she was due on the top 500, chance would also be a fine thing and wipe this twat out.

And here I present my short discussion on why Americans pronounce TWAT as TWOT. I mean there's clearly an O in it. I know British English has it's anomalies, but this lays at the feet of American idiocy. Despite my complaints, here I present my favourite ever use of the American Twat.

God this is fucking BRILLIANT & not mentioned enough in the classics of the era. Still annoyed it peaked outside the top 20 TWICE when it deserved top 5 SMASH.

Mr S pointed out that she reminds him of Alison Hammond in the video & now I can't unsee it :D
 
Also just to clarify that my joy for the Nicki Minaj post is for the Veep clip, not the song.
 
93 Space Brothers - Shine (1999)

I must confess, I had never heard of Shine before it was mentioned on Moopy. A slap on the wrist for Ag and a terrible afternoon spent with Crazychris for that huge mistake.

This is of course the epitome of ethereal trance music, the absolute peak of that subgenre. The Space Brothers also had top 40 hits as Lustral, Chakra, Essence, Oxygen and Ultra High (which adds to the extensive list of 90s DJs pseudonyms). This quite rightly was their biggest.

 
92 Robyn - Be Mine! (2005)

Good God, that Robyn album was such a moment in pop music, and for my reckoning the first time Moopy really found their musical voice. Most of my plays of this already brilliant pop bop were from the Ocelot Motherfckers remix, which is so of it's time in all it's jerky electronic glory.



 
91 Plummet - Damaged (2003)

I had no idea until just over a minute ago that this was a glorious trance cover of the original by Christian rock turned EDM singer - Plumb, who I sent twice to the original ASFM.

Wistful, melancholic, trance, tailor-made for my youthful depression and ecstacy addiction.



 
Given how magnificent Saltwater was (25 years on it still remains one of THE trance standards), I'm surprised more didn't attempt an obvious Brennan Sister / Dance crossover.



Perhaps Enya was too firmly commited to being an urban queen

OT Quartet is proper goosebumps stuff.

Shine simultaneously makes me want to dance myself dizzy and burst into tears too (if I were a crier).

Never heard of the Damaged track - will have a listen.
 
90 Shakedown - At Night (2002)

Ooh that filtered disco/ deep house of the early 00s was quite a hypnotic thrill.

If you want a little bit more Peggy Gou's Acid Journey Remix is quite the thrill.

89 Roger Sanchez - Another Chance (2001)

Hold tight for some more turn of the century nostalgia, from a lendgary DJ perhaps best known for his remixes and of course this song.

I had the video (and the song) on repeat back in 2001. Let's face it the charming, heartbreak video did a bit of the heavy lifting, but that's denying the song. Nicking the vocal from Toto, and placing it into a gorgeous spine chilling filtered disco house world.

IMDB tells me heartbreak girl Kelly Hutchinson, went on to have a middling career in acting, but did go on to produce a whole a whole series of Dead To Me. No news on the status of her heart.

88 ABBA - Super Trouper (1980)

Sitting somewhere in between pure pop banger and reflective ABBA, their final UK no.1 single was a huge hit and is still in their top 10 most streamed.

One of the first ABBA songs I ever knew, due to to it being on my 50 No.1s of the 80s album I got in 1989 and a little later one of the few I learned to play on keyboard.

How many other major hits mention Glasgow?

 
87 Blondie - Atomic (1980)

Oh your hair is BEAUTIFUL, oh TONIGHT.

Also from 1980, from an act I'd guess has some degree of crossover fanbase with ABBA, it's the legendary Blondie. Another early fave, mostly due to the 1994 Diddy remix (not that one - or that one) it's a perennial fave with disco kids, new wave pensioners and indie club skanks. It's basically cool, detached indie disco. Do ignore the rotten Sleeper version. Do dress in post apocalyptic bin bags.

Nearly at one thousand replies and I'll be honest not one of them upcoming is QUITE worthy enough of hosting that honour.

I mean they're all 13 out of 10 but they're not THIRTEEN out of 10.
