New Music Fridays 2024



Some nice stuff on here. The Hayden Thorpe one is my immediate favourite, he sounds wonderful. The singer of Ibibio Sound Machine gives good wail, and I don't know who Findia is but I like both her songs.
 
This is a nice dance pop bop. Also why are so many songs called Midnight lately?

 
Been following a bit of Remi Wolf and she certainly knows how to make a catchy tune. Album out now

 
I've never heard of Faye Meana before but I love that. I see she's got lots on Spotify, will have to investigate.

The Michael Kiwanuka does feel very familiar, still a welcome return.
 


lovely debut record from UK jazz artist Berlioz. I've seen it described as "jazz-house" which is maybe accurate but feels a bit reductive

There’s an EP she did which is more trippy psychedelic R&B but very now, I’ll dig it out. Every track a winner.

Elements of Billie Eilish / Biig Piig alt-pop but also very soulful.

The post (very soft) country career of Maren Morris is shaping up well. cut! really grew on me and this is very good in a Wall of Sound inspired way:

Don't know who this is, think I stumbled upon it on the NMF playlist. Kaytranada-inspired psychadelic R&B.



LOVING this Aeroplane / Alex Metric collab, really catchy vocal and melody and the kind of production you'd expect



House legend Junior Sanchez takes a huge swerve into late 80s / early 90s pop territory and it actually works! (well it's my era so I'm biased)



Loving this new band, following the Haim style of combing 70s Americana with 90s alt-pop

 
I have to say she's got my attention this campaign. The last song was subdued but very original sounding. This however absolutely SLAPS.

I wasn't wild about the first single, but Stop the Rain was a step up and this is right back to the top form from the last album.

It’s right under my skin from the off. Kind of how Caroline Polacheck grabbed me with her last album. It sounds singular and fresh.

I’m like this much more than the other 2 tracks so far. That said, I really enjoy the groove of the album so far.
 
This one from FINNEAS is a very good song with nice brass bits:

The vocals sound a bit Chris Martin at times but it is a tune:



This is as nostalgic and jangly as the band name suggests, and there is a whole EP to delve into:

 
Starsmith who did a lot of Ellie Goulding's debut era material has his own project coming out and she's on vocals here

I'm really liking this new dream-pop band, who are definitely influenced by Taylor, Harry, Jonas Brothers etc



I'm not overly familiar with Paris Paloma but this stood out on NMF this week

The album has A LOT of songs and didn't click on first listen but this is great:



I'd still like them to dabble in the 70s vibes again but this is gleaming pop:

Nilüfer Yanya's album is out - I wasn't too fussed on any of the previous singles, but the chosen playlist track for the album release is gorgeous, might have to check the album out now:



This goes OFF. I thought about sending it to the next ASFM but it gets a bit repetitive, it needs a radio edit. But this will be popular on here with some. @Jark, thoughts?



Not Chromeo popping up and giving Sia her best song in about FIFTEEN YEARS. This reversioning is such a glow-up...



Love Alice's voice, she's back and this is nice



Lynda is also back and giving us FULL TILT 70s DIANA ROSS :disco:



The last Tears For Fears album was really good and this new one is also great



This feels like Pale Waves back to their absolute best. I love the jangle guitar mixed with with the synth pop. Gorgeous.



One of my favourite house vocalists of recent years has gone solo, and we're getting a pop-R&B-dance crossover anthem. This would probably be huge ifi it was from a bigger artist
