New Music Fridays 2024

Pale Waves are killing it. all 4 so far are their best singles and the album sound seems to be closest to their debut, but lyrics, production, and vocals have all improved tenfold. so many gorgeous melodies.

loving Green by TSHA, the best song I've heard from her in a while.

She also co-wrote the closing track on the album, and you can definitely hear her influence on the frantic chorus:

 
Poor Cascada. On her 3rd release from this album and it’s done nothing :D I have a soft spot for her I must confess.

 
This sounds exactly how you'd expect a PNAU remix of a FTP song to sound.

 
The Aces have switched it up very nicely with that new one. I haven't been that interested in Leon Bridges up to now for some reason, but the singles he's released recently are all a mood

Laredo is still my favourite, followed by Peaceful Place. Absolutely gorgeous.

Panther City and Ain't Got Nothing On You are my picks of the new songs. I turned off halfway through God Loves Everyone but I won't hold that against him.

Another new biig piig track. I have to say she kinda frustrates me (or maybe I'm just frustrated with myself) - her songs always deliver but always seem to be missing something. Everything is always a solid 7/10 but I'm always left waiting for that big moment...



I know there's always a certain irony to The Blossoms sound and style but someone needs to be arrested for this idea. I do quite like them as a band though!



There's something about this girl's voice that always draws me in. Known for her big DJ collabs, looks like we might be getting a solo album

I think with Biig Piig I enjoy individual tracks but can all blend into one a bit. I do like 4AM and this new one a lot though.

I wonder if Clementine will struggle getting her solo stuff off the ground like Karen Harding...
 
Yeah I thought of Karen Harding as well and I think she will. But if we get a whole album out of it to enjoy that’s fine! I doubt she’s going down the Becky Hill route so she probably has no chance of chart success but good luck to her!

I rescind my earlier sniffy comments about the material from this album. The title track is especially good.
 
I haven't listened to it all properly yet but it sounds good. She has a really fresh take on pop music which I like, kinda like the way Sharon Van Etten does.
 
I think I may have given up watching X Factor during her series, and it doesn't seem to be representative of her repertoire, but this is a very good big pop song:

The wonderful Boy Harsher remix of Just a Western properly got me into the Nilüfer Yanya album and now there is an EP of mixes:



I'm leaning towards the MorMor one for Like I Say.
 
The new Kiwanuka is excellent. I did some very chilled out housework listening this morning. Definitely feels like it is a natural, more low key successor to the previous album. Love this in particular:

 
I love Kiwanuka. He's playing Liverpool tomorrow but forgot to get tickets :( this doesn't sound like it's as good as the last album, but that's a tough act to follow. I do like all the singles, particularly Floating Parade which is up there with his best. Of the new songs I like "Small Changes" and "Follow Your Dreams"
 


This feels like a better version of the standard generic dance we seem to get about handful of each Friday.

And Martin is certainly ageing very nicely.

As often as River has been done, Holly's version totally works within her soundscape.

I like the Ten Fe track too, has that marriage of light rock and disco going on.
