As someone who may have enjoyed the ODD PLEASANT REVERIE over Morten Harket over the last four decades, I feel very dirty indeed.

I’m just happy she has another skill and will be able to live blog the new series of Strictly for the Mirror when she inevitably loses the next election.

the last one is suggesting Madonna was vaguely good when she performed.
I can't see why Liz would find anything to admire about Madonna. One's an ageing crone at the arse end of her career, desperately changing everything about herself in order to stay relevant to an increasingly disinterested demographic; and the other's... oh, wait.

Even the very worst leaders get a honeymoon period (IDS won the local elections). She will get a brief honeymoon and then the wheels will come right off.

Honestly if she does win a GE I will definitely get round to completing my Canada immigration application.

Of course she’s going to win the GE if she wins this contest. What is it that you’re all not getting in supporting her?

Why would you think she has a better chance of winning a GE than Sunak?

I can understand @funky's pessimism. If Labour was a Big Pop Girl who had been flopping for years, she would release something Fun for Europe right now and slay the charts, except not for Europe, because you know.

Why would you think she has a better chance of winning a GE than Sunak?

Because, as I’ve said before, she’s just another Boris. She’s entirely electable because she’s vacuous enough to be inoffensive to most people, populist enough to cover the basic needs of what most people choose to care about, and a career opportunist that will say absolutely anything that people want to hear, not what they NEED to hear.

How do we think someone so useless got this far?

The fact that Nadine and Rees Mogg were WHEELED OUT onto the steps of Downing Street literally a day after Boris resigned in support of her, was the immediate red flag. The backstage manoeuvring never ends - it’s just a revolving door of right wing shite. Power for the sake of power and to hell with everyone else.

The fact that we lived with this rabble for over a decade, they’re unspeakably shit and keep winning, yet everyone’s like “yeah let’s get someone unspeakably shit in to bring down the Tories!” just astonishes me. They’re not going anywhere, so until we reach an election where it’s a fair fight, let’s at least have someone who can try and stabilise this country, not someone who just wants to sit in the chair and has absolutely no idea what that means.

Boris had three major things going for him. Brexit, undeniable charisma and Corbyn. Truss has none of those. I really don’t think their situations are very comparable at all.

They’ll both (continue to) fuck the country. Sunak just has a veneer of professionalism.

(To the tune of "Jamaica Inn")

The sexiest thing is TRUSS
I wake up to find the Mordaunt has come
Tying up along your Gove
How was I to know that Rishi has come
Between Theresa's

Beneath your Tugendhats
I have worshiped
At the 10 Downing Inn
At the 10 Downing Inn

If you know, you know :eyes:
And yes my sisters in the sacred feminine @Tisch @Iguana @BoysForSeles and @jivafox all know

OMG!!

THIS!

I can’t see either of them stabilising the country. They’re both rooted in the right of the party - Thatcherism and free markets on steroids.

Sunak is far more dangerous as he has the ability and PR game to almost make people believe he’s a competent, safe pair of hands.

Can we stop with this idea that Boris was charismatic? He looked and spoke like a BAFFOON, and only got away with it cos he’s white, upper class and knew how to play the people with his appearance.

There are lots of white upper class buffoons in politics. I think it’s fair to say Boris was a much better media performer than most of them. There’s a reason he was more celebrity than politician through most of his career.

I’m not complimenting him. I’m just acknowledging that a large swathe of the population was more pre-disposed to liking him than they are most of his ilk.

Look, the 2019 GE was the Brexit GE.
Boris spearheaded it and he succeeded.
Had it been any other Tory who was a staunch Brexiteer they would have probably achieved the same thing.
Boris was... immaterial in that regard.
Karma's a bitch as we all know, and she always calls, so she gave him the Covid19 crisis to deal with.
And so the bubble burst.
I think it was less to do with him being white upper class or the British public to be honest.
At that point, people wanted Brexit to be done with. Priti Patel or Rishi Sunak would have probably achieved the same goal if they had been in his shoes.

VoR, love you and all that, but on the basis that you’re a sane, intelligent individual, could you retract the statement that Boris is charismatic?

It made me a little bit sick in my mouth.

I’m not saying I’M charmed by him FFS!

Trump is charismatic too. I don’t get it at all, but clearly to a lot of people he has something.

Regardless of everything, Boris and Liz are both populists. That’s the common thread I can’t abide and pretty much the only reason I don’t want her as PM because it’s more of the same shit. I’d rather some different shit to the same populist shit. It’s smeared across every word that comes out of their mouth. I do believe that most if not all people on moopy are completely aware of that. Now, if only I could limit the electorate to people on moopy I’d be a bit happier

(Even if it meant half the cabinet was made up of drag queens and real housewives)
