i've always liked him as a presence in the world but never enough to properly explore the music (though i did have a bit of a moment to grinderman). i randomly heard a track from this album however and it struck a chord so i investigated.
and it's great. bleak and atmospheric and sprase, with strings and drones and synths, overflowing with heartbreak and suspense and tenderness in the shadow of his son's passing a few years ago.
