I wanted to hate it but it grew on me. I don't like his overly processed vocals, but I guess I'm glad the trend of minimal production has moved on because his more recent stuff suffered from that.

I can imagine it doing okay if anyone is still interested.

Someone said it sounds a bit like ‘Impossible’ which I see (Shontelle and/or James Arthur).

Not really I want as a lead single from this specimen to be fair but it’s ok.
 
The Jonas Brothers in general have been one of the biggest surprises for me in recent years with their summery yacht rock, and also some of Nick's solo stuff hitting the spot.

This however, hits no spots whatsoever, so hoping the album has more to offer.
 
The song's not bad, kind of makes more sense as a 2010s nostalgia thing, and late 2010s regarding the excessive vocal processing/pitch correction, but fine if it fits him lyrically.
It does sound a bit like Impossible (I remember James Arthur and liked his cover, but I've only just discovered Shontelle and her version 💗)

Haha the title reminds me of a more obscure Enya quote "every song is a punch in the gut"

I knew of the Jonas Brothers (and Demi Lovato) a long while ago though, thanks to some Camp Rock (as in summer camp, I think :D) lunch box I had. :grin:

Gut Punch I thought was alright. The album is rubbish though. Soppy generic rubbish.
I loved Spaceman!
 
I'm enjoying the album on first listen. His voice sounds a bit over produced and some of the lyrics verge just the acceptable side of cringe, but otherwise I like the songs!
 
Oh god i listened to this album last night and absolutely hated it :gross:

I never noticed his dreadful drama school voice before because the last few records have been very funky. But this is Radio 2 Ed Sheeran whiny ballads meets Rick Astley white soul music with 2005 generic pop for the masses production. Basically it’s a Daniel Bedingfield album!

I was in shock listening to it that this was the same guy who produced “Jealous” - years BEFORE this!

Disappointing! I enjoyed the Spaceman album too so was hoping this would be more of that if nothing else.

I see Josette from MUNA is credited as co-writer on a few of these songs. A job’s a job I suppose.
 
I had a listen and thought it was pretty good. No major standouts but nothing too objectionable, and I love the little siren noise he does in 911 :love: WEEOO WEEOO

His vocal stylings are a BIT MUCH over the course of a whole album though

Isn't this album a ROLLERCOASTER ride?

on the first half, he's serving Charlie Puth with some Sheeran, then it's time to cosplay Maroon 5, then Teddy Swims, and throw in some Alex Warren too. AWFUL!

So I went back to see if I saved any songs in my further listening playlist and yes, I had saved Aphrodite and, after another listen, it's quite brilliant.

I've also saved the opener "Sweet To Me" and that's a grower, too.

So I take back what I said about the album being a dud. Didn't care for most of it, but two good songs will do me.

I’ll be returning to “Aphrodite”, what a smooth bop.

I didn’t mind the other few people mentioned, will give the full album a try maybe.

The album debuts at #30 in the US with about 23k sales. Spaceman debuted at 12. I expected worse to be honest, though it surely will be gone next week.
 
It was such a random, quick run campaign. I wonder if he's just fulfilling contractual obligations.
