So the online service starts today (about £20 a year?) I've paid up for 3 months. There are a number of NES title's being released for the subscription if you are a fan of them?

I've got a nice little backlog of games to play currently with Skyrim, Octopath traveller and YS VIII to be played. Just need to get Spiderman over the line first :cautious:
 
oh, Octopath Traveler is out now? I wonder how it is, it was quite the PR craze when I was in Tokyo, I even stumbled across a Square Enix cafe :david:

I'm on a gaming forum that has sales figures for July & August for America and it's top (with GTA V just behind). The reviews were very positive, in fact I think the stock's limited in the UK as they never expected it to sell so well (so they are trying to play catch up)
 
I'm not convinced by the online platform yet

If it had gamecube and N64, I could be persuaded, but NES games? It just feels a bit lacklustre considering how long this has taken to get off the ground.
 
The selection of NES games is LOUSY and the whole online platform feels half-arsed. But then, Sony and Microsoft have been doing this for a LOT longer.

Plus it's about £1.50 a month if you buy the annual membership - so it's hard to complain about it really.

You won’t regret it.

It’s transformed the way I think about gaming. I get quite aggrieved now when I can’t carry on playing my PS4 in bed.
 
There was a Nintendo Direct tonight with a few new announcements, including but not limited to -
  • Super Mario Maker 2 and Fire Emblem out this summer
  • Mortal Kombat 11 out in April, same time as the PS4 and Xbox versions
  • Ports of quite a few older multiplatform games including Dead By Daylight, Hellblade and Assassin's Creed III Remastered
  • A seemingly endless parade of generic third-rate JRPGs coming soon
  • A new PlatinumGames title called Astral Chain, headed by some of the big names behind NieR and Bayonetta :disco:
  • The FFVII port is coming on March 26th, and FFIX (the better game, don't @ me) is out 'later today' ie probably overnight in GMT
  • A remake of LINK'S FUCKING AWAKENING featuring a cute plasticine-esque art style :o
Quite a good one, all in all! No news on Animal Crossing yet, but I'm sure there'll be something next time :side-eye:
 
For a split second the Platinum game looked like Sin & Punishment 3 and my heart skipped a beat :( I'm not sure I like my P+ PG-RATED but I'm cautiously optimistic. Also, NEW IP.

If that Mecha game plays anything like ZOE I'm IN.
 
So things that are due this year but still weren’t seen:

Metroid Prime Trilogy
Pokémon
Animal Crossing
Luigi’s Mansion 3
 
The only thing in that list that interest is Links Awakening. I’d prefer actual new FF games than constant ports.
 
A portable FF7 and 9 is good though

Can’t anyone get their shit together and make 8 again, even if they lost the discs?
 
VIII isn’t to do with the missing data, it’s to do with the character models.

VII and IX have a fairly distinctive art style, which upscales - in the case of VII and the blocky character models, a cube is a cube no matter what resolution.

VIII was more realistic (for the time) and the character models in a higher resolution would apparently not work to an acceptable quality. So without doing an entire remake, it’s easier to just leave it on the shelf.
 
I haven't seen him around much lately - although I suppose the use of Nintendo Directs now negates his need somewhat.

I've always found him a bit cringeworthy. He seems like a nice guy but he came across as a bit of an American OAF that Nintendo had regrettably adopted.

I did :D at the shade of "I leave in good health" after Satoru Iwata literally worked until he died.
 
Yeah I'm not a massive fan either, he's nothing like Iwata who lived and breathed video games. This guy liked video games like he liked Pizza Hut before when he worked for them.
 
If that is true and not spin I'm very glad they're delaying it. The industry is rife with crunch and you'd think a giant like Nintendo would be one of the companies that would be able to get away with it.

It's still releasing in this financial year anyway, it's only three months.
 
Animal Crossing has always struck me as more of a Spring/Summer game - I guess they're banking on Pokemon to be their BIG game of Christmas 2019 now.

That said, I didn't expect Super Smash Bros. to be as big as it was last year - so maybe AC would've done alright. Ah well.
 
Is Luigi coming out this year? I don't think it has a release date.

I think broadly speaking it's Fire Emblem in July, Astral Chain in August/September, Pokemon in November, Animal Crossing in March.
 
Luigi’s Mansion IS due this year - but there’s no release date. Which seems odd because almost everything else announced did have.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see it slip to next year.

My poor wig when BOTW2 drops.

Can someone who knows Mario Maker 2 advise if it's worth it? I don't really think I want to BOTHER making levels myself, but I see there's 100 Nintendo-created levels to play and I suppose I'd give a go to some of the user-made efforts.

Yeah I’m thinking the same. I mean I like Mario, I’m even tempted to finally get Online to play the community ones.

I realised it’s the same as my habit of enjoying watching cooking shows, but not actually wanting to cook

I have the previous Mario Maker and never made a single stage. However you could play some incredible stages created by other people, so that was worth it. Not sure if for full price though, and I believe this sequel doesn't let you store as many levels as the original.

OK so I'm two years behind everybody else but having finally 100%-ed Zelda (DEAD @ the prize for painstakingly hunting down all those fucking korok seeds being a literal piece of shit) and playing Mario Odyssey.

It's obviously beautifully animated and filled with joy, but I do find that a few too many of the challenges aren't actually any fun whatsoever, and are seemingly designed purely to be an exercise in frustration. I'm currently swearing my way through a nightmarish spinning platform challenge in the Luncheon Kingdom and fuck me it's a chore.

Also those jump rope cunts can burn in hell.
