It looks very chaotic. Not crazy about aliens but it’ll definitely be worth checking out.
 
Wow just wow. It’s an extremely fun and fulfilling movie. I didn’t see it in imax but it’s visually stunning and I understand why it’s getting an imax run.

It’s just a very good version of a monster story. Everything makes sense and you’re along for the ride.

Yeah, I was disappointed and quite bored. I think I’ve seen too many films as I could see some things coming a mile off.

When it ended one woman in the screen loudly declared that she was really scared :manson: but then a different lady was ranting in the toilets about it being the worst thing she’d seen for a long time. It was actually neither and merely “meh”.
 
Weirdly I was bored most of the time during it but afterwards it ignited lots of discussion.

It was like Jordan Peele does Jaws.
 
I was really disappointed. I fell asleep midway and woke up just before it ended but I didn't care and have no desire to rewatch until it's on tv. Keke Palmer was great though.
 
Oh dear. I was such a fan of Get Out and was so disappointed by the HOT MESS that was Us, I was hoping that was just a blip but if you're telling me this is more like the latter again I'm actually disappointed :-(
 
Really enjoyed this. It wasn't particularly scary (aside from THAT CHIMP :zombie: ) but Phoenix nailed it as a kind of Close Encounters meets Jaws affair.

Amazing cinematography, fabulous score and Keke Palmer was an absolute delight. Not up there with Get Out (I think we probably need to accept he's unlikely to ever top that) but certainly on a par with Us for me.
 
Saw this last night and thought better of it this morning than at the time. The crazy spectacle of the final sequence (man eating TENT indeed :D) took a very long time to arrive at and I did find the first half a chore. I went in with elevated expectations (the Get Out effect I suppose), but when you realise it's going to be ridiculous rather than profound, it settles in. That said, I can see why it's divisive.

I wasn't expecting Steven Yuen to get chomped halfway in. SHAME :D

For pure fun, this is Peele's best for me. Get Out's final act is too much of a letdown.

This was really frustrating, and it upset me how much I disliked it. I feel there's an expectation a la early M Night Shyamalen going on here which isn't his fault, but even taking that aside, it was mostly really boring.

Get Out and Us both set such a precedent. The latter I appreciate more over time because of how ambitious the idea was and to present in a way that (just about) made sense with amazing performances and still being horror was not an easy task.

This, though...it took so long to get to the point. If he was going to do a scary UFO film I'd rather he went full throttle with it instead of teasing for at least an hour with nothing. There's one scene where they're in the house and, spoiler I guess

the "monster" is killing all those people, sucking them up and seemingly eating them alive including KIDS, while blood rains down on the house

that's actually terrifying and so tense, he should have focused more on that kind of full on horror than what we got. The sister was fun and stole the show, but it didn't really make up for Daniel Kaluuya moodily dragging his character through the film, I mean I get that was the point but it was such a chore.

Also the chimp story added nothing. I know it was part of one of the (many) themes at play here but it felt totally inconsequential to the story.

On the plus side, everything looked gorgeous and that final act was reasonably fun and impressive. But a major letdown overall.

I was still pretty happy with this though, and glad I saw it. It's just no Us or Get Out though, obv.

The chimp story threw me because they mentioned Chris Kattan and I knew he had that Mr Peepers character, but it was totally made up but based on some sort of pseudo-reality. I wish they’d just made it up with completely fictional people because as an SNL fan from that era, I was racking my brain about the whole thing.
 
I agree with RoM's point that he's in danger of boxing himself in a "mystery" corner. Something a bit more direct might be a good idea next time. You don't need bonkers twists every time.

Exactly, I liked it, but it felt entirely unrelated. I was waiting for a more obvious story link. I know it was part of a grander point to be made but it was clumsily done and came across a tad self indulgent in that sense.

Is the story about a hungry kite? Well just tell us that then please
