I agreed to go and see this with friends, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it, Eggers isn't really my cup of tea. The Witch and The Lighthouse both have some effective scenes, good acting and gorgeous cinematography, but they left me cold (and a bit bored) and I haven't felt the need to rematch either.

I saw this yesterday. It was exactly the same trajectory as the others for me. Starts out well, I lose all concentration before the end of the first hour, then just counting down the minutes in my head until it’s finished.

I liked The Witch and The Lighthouse, not so much The Northman, but I really enjoyed this, my favourite Eggers film by far.

However, give Lily-Rose Depp the RAZZIE immediately. She's one of the worst actresses I've ever seen on screen! Nepo piece of shit almost ruined the whole thing.

She did spoil it for me - she was AWFUL

I did enjoy it overall though. I'm really familiar with the Murnau and Herzog versions and it lifted a lot from those. I was surprised it didn't diverge more.

It looked quite sensational, and the sound was just incredible. I saw it at the IMAX and it was earsplitting in a good way. Every time he spoke, it rattled through my chest!

I've never seen The Office, so I always just expect to hear his usual accent as heard in The Witch when I see him

The strength is how good it can look, but it doesn't dazzle enough. We ended up laughing at how po-faced it often was, but were also both going out of our minds whilst willing for it to finish

Mostly Depp had two modes in this; being an inexpressive Victorian waif, and doing those faces onlyfans gays do when they're having a wank. I thought she was perfectly fine at both.

Her tongue acting was sublime.

I enjoyed this a lot more than The Northman, which I found to be a bit of a slog. This didn't reach the fabulously absurd heights of The Lighthouse, but it was a very good retelling of a classic story, and I found that oddly comforting despite all the death, gore and despair.

A predictable feast for the eyes, even if some of Lily Rose-Depp's line readings were not exactly a feast for the ears.
