Now WHERE were we talking about Bertine Zetlitz last...

I STILL can't find the second album anywhere. ANYONE ?

SO they do

They never USED to

*orders*

Thank you KINDLY

I love "Morbid Latenight Show"

"Rollerskating" is her most complete work...it really is superb and I wish this sort of stuff would come out over here. It really is perfect radio/MTV fodder. If Goldfuckingfrapp can do it...

Have you seen the videos to 'Ah Ah' and 'Fake Your Beauty' on her website?

Yeah, I agree. I think its only with Rollerskating that she's managed to pull off every single song completely. Sweet Injections sounds like a bit of stepping stone between the second and fourth albums and while I don't mind the first two albums, I'm never eager to listen to them.

Yes- they are far too good to be wasted on the SCANDIS

I like ALL the 3 albums I have muchly but "Rollerskating" really is a superb album- one of the best Ive heard of the past 3 years...

I checked the news page a while back, and it seems like she's working with the same bloke she did 'Rollerskating' with for the new album.

GOOD

Then release it in the UK with "Rollerskating" tracks added and OFF WE GO

"Fake Your Beauty" is far too good to not be a UBERHIT

No, they will probably give it to RACHEL CUNTING STEVENS when for some godforsaken reason she's given ANOTHER album.

LOL

Now come on, even YOU said you liked the album...

But yes, I wouldnt want her to touch "Fake Your Beauty"...though imagine the irony in her singing THAT :D

Hasn't Bertine gotten any Annie-style exposure outside of Scandinavia? I remember reading a review of Rollerskating on Stylus and assumed that perhaps she had?

It had better have given her 10/10

I love Annie, but to be fair I don't get how she has got all that fuss and yet Id heard nothing about Bertine...

I'd never heard anything until everpres mentioned her here. In fact, didn't he first introduce us to Alexis Strum?

That's my favourite two singles of the year thanks to him.

Erm I dunno...

I thought I knew of Alexis prior to his championing of her but I might be WRONG

Who did we hear of Robyn from?

Robyn has been around for ages but to be FAIR, I went on about the Robyn album of this year for ages before everyone else picked up on it. I ordered it week of release from CDOn on a complete whim...

I like "Anniemal" muchly but "Rollerskating" is FAR FAR FAR superior

Can someone gmail a few choice cuts from 'Robyn' please? I've still not heard anything from it.

Did it get a UK release?

No it didnt...there were rumours and I think they were fairly recent so it might get one in 2006. It really should...its really rather special

I will but tomorrow. Im off to bed now

I think I prefer Rollerskating to Anniemal too....Bertines delivery is just so much more VICIOUS than Annies, and Rollerskating really does feature 2 and a half of the best pop ballads of the past few years (Wicked Wonderboys, Broken and At Night)

I would love Ah Ah or Fake Your Beauty to get a release over here...the video for Ah Ah is absolutely gorgeous stuff

I will make you understand forever
I'll make everybody disappear
I will make you hold my hand forever
Till I'm standing clear

Magical
Mystical

Not so sure
Never had a girl like you

Probably cause us in the US couldn't pronounce her name :) She would be known as Bertine.

In case you haven't noticed Annie may have been released over here, but hardly burning up the charts.

What's with Norway and the Annie-esque whisper vocal. Even Marit Larsen has a tiny voice.

'Ah Ah' is the best chance for US...the rest are too 'euro' (but my fav may be 'Want You' and Kylie DID hit with similar 'Can't Get'). Love the Brilliant spanish guitar bridge for 'Ah'. Made top 100 songs of 2005 in an an internet chart (which is where I heard about her). Since they have mp3s on-site, i wont link it, but here is their comments (love the Anniemal comparison comment!):

In which the beautifully demented Norwegian pop goddess proves that you don’t actually need choruses sometimes. Taking her cues from Neneh Cherry’s Buffalo Stance, Bertine crafted a deceptively funky mix from tingling guitars, a frosty noise that sounds like a treated flute, a mild hip-hop beat. In the verses, she half-raps over it, in the bits between, she intones the wordless title over and over as an interlude between parts of her puzzling, troubling lyric. “Baby, why’d you put on mama’s dress?” “Baby, why’d you borrow mama’s gun?”.

On an album as surface-inviting but lyrically downcast as Rollerskating (which eats Anniemal for breakfast, if you’re counting), I can’t be sure if it’s playing dress-up as grown-up, transsexualism or fetishism. Bertine, who once called herself the “sickest girl you’ll ever find”, endears herself further by referencing two earlier songs of herselves - “all the little twisted stars will twinkle just for fun”, referring to previous album singles “Twisted Little Star” and “For Fun”, propping the song up with enough mischief to make me want to assume it’s something innocuous to fit with the body-popping for dorks the beat forces you to engage in.

Aside: I like the Pogues-esque intro to 'Blue' (Fiesta). Anyone old enough notice that?

Oooh there is a new song up on her wesite now called Midnight ( www.bertine.com )

Annoyingly it won't work on my computer so if somebody could give it a listen and tell me if its any good I'd be thankful TA

It is officially...ALRIGHT

Very 80s...slightly dodgy casio backing track really, but the chorus is pretty good. I dunno, it might grow, I love 500 now!

There's an mp3 here. That didn't take long.

Another good one, though not as dark as 500. Poppier than a lot of her stuff. Very much looking forward to the album.

I never warmed up to "500". I've loved all of Bertine's first singles except this one :(

I kind of agree. Its ALRIGHT but its not FANTASTIC like it should be...

I will still get the album though

I LOVED 500, but it wasn't an obvious first single I agree. Midnight may have been a better lead, but I don't think that is in the Fake Your Beauty or Girl Like You league either.

Finally got "My Italian Greyhound" through today (THANK YOU CDON  ) and although I like it, its nowhere near as instant or dazzling as "Rollerskating". Wonder if it will just take a bit longer to reveal its beauty...
