The album tracks such as Hey Now and Cast No Shadow I love much more these days than the hugely overplayed singles. Wonderwall is still good, Don't Look Back In Anger I heard far too much, and Roll With It was always pants.

But overplay means the odd thing annoys me now. Absolutely THE album of my youth, though...
 
First album I ever bought, with a Boots voucher at Christmas! It was either that or Blue Is The Colour by Beautiful South, but my mum stopped me getting that when she saw the sticker on it (Don't marry her, fuck me... ahem). I remember getting home and lying on my bed listening to it straight through, brilliant album - all downhill afterwards though. She's Electric is still one of my fave songs of theirs, as is most of the album to be fair.

Their sound is SO dated. I can just see the cheque shirts and the spots and the centre part haircuts... it's just so NORTHERN and so GRIM and so GOD THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO

I still like "Cast No Shadow" though

I used to love it... now I'm still rather fond in a nostalgic manner. 'Cast No Shadow' was and still is my favourite thing on it.
 
Better tham theor later singles, but not really worth listening to it over again.

Ron Jr has got right into Oasis but he's too young for a ticket, but I know a place you can stand and see over the wall so we're going down for the Friday gig to watch it haha
 
The Guardian needing to be smug and spiteful for no reason AGAIN. I fucking hate their entertainment journalists.

They came on stage holding hands and gave each other a hug at the end. Already the most affection they've ever shown each other in public. So no, they weren't being "relatively frosty". Fuck OFF.
 
I’m still so incredibly sad for one of my friends who is SUCH a huge fan and followed the band all the way through to 2009, unlike a lot of us who abandoned them post-90s. He’s still not been able to get a ticket :(
 
Hilarious how they don't appear to be doing ANYTHING post-Be Here Now. :D Mostly garbage of course, but I'd have expected them to at least throw in Lyra, Stop Crying Your Heart Out or The Importance of Being Idle.

I would have expected Stop Crying... but maybe a Liam ballad too many. I associate it as much with X Factor as them I think.
 
I’m not sure it is “hilarious”- it’s actually a masterclass in giving the public what they want. A lot of acts could learn a lesson from it.

Yeah. Especially at festivals where crowds are less loony but an act will do 12 songs and a buzz track from their latest album…
 
Y’know, I was there first time round- I was never the BIGGEST Oasis fan in the world, but I adored the first two albums and I was at Knebworth. Post Be Here Now, I basically didn't give a shit. I actually do remember liking The Importance of Being Idle, but I couldn't hum it to you now, and Stop Crying Your Heart Out I only know/ remember from X Factor. Very little else. And, considering my background of mild fandom and my music knowledge in general, I must be one of the more Oasis-educated fans out there. I just don't think there's the need beyond that.

I mean, to use an analogy VoR might understand, NO ONE is crying out for Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) on the next Spice Girls reunion cash-grab.

Perhaps Hilarious was too strong of a word, but I certainly think it's noteworthy that they've basically tacitly written off a good 2/3 of their career. The Headlines comparison really isn't apt because that song was a total flop at the time as well. Oasis trudged on for over a decade after the point where most people would now say they went off the boil. They had four - at the time massive and hugely overplayed - number ones after the turn of the millennium. So those songs aren't exactly obscurities.
 
Babe look at Gags paying dust to ARTPOP, Joanne and Chromatica at her MAYHEM shows. And those were all 10+/10 albums.

Anyway, I wasn't even originally inviting a comparison to the Spice Girls, but I do think there's something to be said for the amount of tolerance a male guitar-based band received from the media to keep churning out the same old shit for years, compared to virtually any female fronted group or performer who dares to outstay their welcome. Every one of those terrible latter-day Oasis albums (and I worked in HMV through the mid-late 00s so they were very much inflicted upon me) was given blanket coverage and hyperbolically hailed as a massive return to form at the time, and it's only afterwards people admitted that for the most part they weren't actually very good at all.
 
Oasis were to the cis-het majority what Spice Girls were to queers - so much more than music, but a memory of a feeling that it's genuinely quite hard to let go of. Especially now that the UK is fully into its declinism era.
 
Never has a band spunked their load quite like it. Every song they're known for was release before the end of 1995 yet it went on until 2009. They've caught their reunion window perfectly. Any older and their voices wouldn't have been up to it - there are plenty of rest days on the tour and that has to be why. The set is exactly what everyone wanted, no-on was at the ticket office demanding a refund because they didn't play Go Let It Out.
 
I really like some of their noughties stuff. I think it was notable that only one song came from the last two thirds of their career, but it’s not a major swerve.

So happy to see my fave Cast No Shadow on the setlist.
 
I wonder if Oasis have done the treble on today’s album charts
