Can't a list of countries that are already taken be updated regularly?

Yeah, for this game, I am hoping that part of the fun is searching for a song to enter rather than just picking the first thing you think of. And if you choose your own country then it's better than being saddled with LUXEMBOURG or something.
 
We could swap the word 'country' for the word 'nation' to make it a bit more about shared culture/language/history/identity ETC. :)

It still wastes your time if you are researching which song from an act you want to send and then someone else enters that country. I guess unless there is a different country that they could fit into or they are obscure enough that Kala wouldn't know that one of the band members doesn't have a grandparent from Jupiter.
 
I'm thinking option 3 is going to be Big Brother 5 FIGHT NIGHT levels of chaos.

If we went with that, I would have to set a time and date for when the submissions open and then it's first come first served by PM. However if you want to send a song from Sweden, England etc, your chances of being accepted are gonna be less than if you picked SERBIA or something. If most people went for less obvious countries then it would work better.
 
As for OPTION 1, the only thing is that it makes it a bit LESS interesting. Say there were 25 people, then we'd pick 25 obvious countries, as it wouldn't be fair for someone to get Australia and the next person is saddled with VIETNAM. If the person chooses themselves then we might get things a bit more eclectic than your usual suspects.
 
I have decided I'm on board with Option 1 if big obvious places are excluded.

I suggest that there is a 6 million population MAXIMUM.
 
And regional semi finals so that the finale is a huge celebration of the world at large and not Eurocentric.

And all contestants should submit an opening video in which they attempt to introduce their act using the (or a) national language of their selection. :disco:

No, no restictions on that, or on year of release, or length of song, or whether it's a cover version etc, just that the song has to have some LINK with the country. I would be willing to look at producer too, I guess to make it easier.
 
After reading through, I think it's best to have been allocated a country in some way before submitting a song, so that you know it's THE song and don't get the disappointment that your country has already been claimed. So I've gone for option 1, but I'd be happy to go with any as long as we keep the anonymous aspect as that was a big part of the fun of ASFM for me.
 
Just to be ANNOYING, what about Option 1 but with a choice of say three countries for each person?

I think everyone should have to enter a song from their ASFM Round One country. Let's see Raspberry Swirl or cwej finish top 5 then.

PROBABLY but not necessarily. In that voters may find the Vietnamese entry more interesting compared to the Australian one and give it votes. Unless we're all RACISTS

Exactly this. Free for all choices worked great for the last round because there were no other considerations, they wouldn’t work here because you could invest your time and effort in finding songs for country after country and keep being told they’re gone.
It’s not like Kala’s going to foist DJIBOUTI on us (Although Djibouti Call was an early standout for All Saints), it’s not going to be hard to pick a song for Austria or The Philippines if that’s who you’re allocated.
 
I think this country thing is problematic because people don’t choose the music they love based on nationalism. Well, not my kinda people anyway.

What made Ag’s a success is that people were literally willing to end friendships over the songs they loved and carefully selected being dissed. Raspberry Swirl started glassing people backstage during the early voting, Diddy became Craig “I refuse to diminish my character in order to survive” Coates from Big Brother 6, Rita was revealed to have music taste that began and ended in 2001, Alla shocked all with his love of death metal, Buttertart turned out to be a chavvy clubber and Octophone has already had 3 people executed, possibly more to come.

Make the country aspect irrelevant and make this round’s variant be the introduction of semi finals.
 
Omg the poll is a 3-way tie :D

I’d say option 2 with the most obvious countries off the table (US, Canada, UK, maybe Aus and Sweden?) or a further restriction if you get one of those countries, like it can’t be anyone with a top 20.

I agree, option 3 would be just frustration for people putting in effort, and option 1 would really need some careful country selections to make it fair

Another round of ASFM is still happening run by Soldi later, but I am making this a completely different contest because we couldn't all agree last time on the rules, and then Ag just ran with it.

I want part of the FUN to be selecting your song and take time finding a song to fit and not just pick something in the space of 5 minutes. Plus there WERE a lot of similar songs in the line up for the recent ASFM,

I want to mix it up a bit and at least TRY this to see if it works. If it's a disaster then I will hold my hands up and say so, but there's no harm in giving it a go.
 
And there WILL be semi finals. I want to see people CRUSHED when they fail to qualify! :D
