Imogen Heap was also hanging around the arse end of the chart before the Christmas songs hit.
 
A 2005 release that reached No.74 in 2006, Headlock returned to its peak a couple of months ago, after an absence of more than 18 years for singer/songwriter Imogen Heap. Its use in new video game Mouthwashing triggered TikTok activity for the song, which is now back again, and improving on its peak, resuming at No.57 (6,977 sales), while raising its all-time consumption to 95,688 units.
 
Yeah it seems to be gaining big traction on streaming now.

Christmas completely decimated, and we're almost back to the usual suspects. Although the list is led by La La La at #32, which like Headlock last week I have no idea why it's recharting. Headlock itself is climbing, heading towards the top 40, which might be her first.

Little to report, although Imogen Heap gets her first ever top 40 hit.

The original of Dirty Cash was charting outside the top 40, but a new remix replaced, which this week climbs to #22. But it won't qualify for this list until 2032, when I'll be dead.
 
Sorry I've not updated in weeks. It's been really really boring. Imogen Heap bobbing around the bottom of the top 40 is about as interesting as it gets.

It remains very boring, it's the same old shit.

HOWEVER, midweek charts, Oasis 'Whatever' is no.1.
 
They're only 500 ahead before streaming gets included properly anyway- it might not even make the top ten, but it gives the Chart Company a headline, I suppose.

The scary thing is, @Visit Cardiff is only counting the songs that are considered old. There are probably that number again on the chart that are recent, but over 6 months old. I’m pretty sure the chart last time I checked only contains about 50% of songs which are from the last 6 months. That’s absurd. Any chart from the 80s or 90s or 00s would be 100% from the last 6 months, probably 90% from the last 3 … barring any specific re-release.

However the most notable thing really is this excerpt from the sales report, illustrating the UTTER NONSENSE that they've made of it all now :D. Who has produced this and thought "yes makes sense"? Are they deciding things based on coin flips?


Three No.1 hits from the last century featured in the cult hit join in the fun: I Think We Are Alone Now – a 1988 No.1 for 16-year-old Tiffany – re-enters for the first time since at No.29 (10,467 sales); Should I Stay Or Should I Go – No.17 when first released in 1982, and No.1 nine years later after being the soundtrack to a Levi’s jeans commercial – ends a 34-year absence by returning at No.42 (8,281 sales) for The Clash; and Every Breath You Take – the fifth and final No.1 for The Police, dating from 1983 – is a first time re-entry, re-emerging at No.58 (7,124 sales). The Police track is actually more popular than those of Tiffany or The Clash but is the only one encumbered by ACR, without which it has consumption of 14,202 units.
 
They really need to sort that. I get having the rule to get rid of the old classics that just loiter around, but there needs to be a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ when it comes to songs getting a new lease of life. Diana wasn’t reset either, yet Tiffany was. Just makes no sense.
 
So having a very BORED GEEK read, it seems one of the criteria for whether a song is moved off ACR is if a record label specifically requests it. So potentially all that has happened is Tiffany and The Clash's management said "CAN WE PLEASE" whilst the Police's and Ms Ross' had better things to do with their time. Which is a LUDICROUS way to run the sharts.
 
It's bullshit. They have all the information necessary. The OCC decides the rules re ACR and SCR, and should either apply them fully or not.
 
There is still a chance that The Police & Diana Ross will be reset this week but it probably won't happen until Friday
