Old TOTP (BBC4) (1 Viewer)

I have definitely been struggling. There's a few things I'd like to see, like the TOTP audience listlessly swaying to "If You Tolerate This Then Your Children Will Be Next" but maybe not enough to carry on as I have been.

1998!

As Lighthouse Family songs go, High is one of the better ones, but I still can't shake the image of it being the last thing I hear as the poison gas pumps into my chamber at the Euthanasia clinic...

Our first Steps sighting. It really was all there from the start. Faye oozing star quality, Lisa giving 110%, Lee unable to even rap in tune, H doing far too much mugging and Claire looking miserable at the back. :D

Ugh. Not to belabour a point, but the absolute worst thing about this era of TOTP is going to be Jo fucking Whiley. Even as a 12 year old I picked up on her relentlessly smug 'I know I'm too good for this shit' energy.

Space really fell off hard after that one album, didn't they? I don't even remember this song, and Spiders was an absolute staple in our family car.

I suppose they still have The Ballad of Tom Jones to go, but beyond that they just totally crashed out, didn't they?

They had an appalling lead off single from the third album that missed the top 40 & from there it was a rapid CRASH & BURN.

I do remember "Avenging Angels" as they were huge at school at this time, but yes, Tom Jones was their last popular culture moment of any NOTE

How have Vanilla not been given a Supersister-esque quasi-ironic Mighty Hoopla booking yet? I can only assume they're all dead or living under assumed names.

Quite impressive how they're all completely terrible in unique ways. The blonde one appeared to be particularly struggling with the choreo. :D

No recall of this Rialto lot, but they could have made the Pulp cosplay a *little* less obvious. The lead singer looks and sounds like a Jarvis Cocker tribute act.

I'm sure I recalled enjoying the odd Rialto song, but looking at their discography I don't recognise the name of any of them.

Pretty sure they have either very recently played here or are about to.

Oh I likes Rialto and didn’t really clock the Pulp thing at the time but of course a load of vitriol from next to me on the sofa about them being a cheap knock off :D

I can forgive TOTP being shifted for Glastonbury coverage, but I draw the line at TEST MATCH CRICKET.

Finally back :disco:

Bless little Usher persisting in his attempts to get the overexcited teen girls to sing along to U Make Me Wanna. None of them bought it for the music, babes...

Sarah Cracknell nonchalantly working the feather boa in this Saint Etienne perf. :disco:

Would this be their last time on the show as a full group? I assume she'll show up when Tell me Why hits, but Sylvie was pretty much the end of their hitmaking days sadly.

I'm quite sure this OTT song wasn't a big enough hit to justify them wheeling it out a second time...

Bless, Cleopatra. A surprise highlight of the one Mighty Hoopla I attended. I assume they're currently having a lucrative summer on the regional pride circuit...
