So The Housemartins belatedly got themselves a sort of hot one with the arrival of the other one from The Beautiful South. I do like Build too.
 
The Hooters seem to be more than a bit shit. Glad to see it appears to be a one time visit to the UK charts.
 
Where was I - "Walk The Dinosaur"...decent, still good fun. Poor David Was having to mime the guitar which he clearly can't play (he wrote the group's lyrics).
 
How many people, in 1987, knew what "Rent" was really about? I certainly didn't.
 
Gotta be honest, I couldn't remember "The Circus" by Erasure at all. It sounds a wee bit too much like the superior "Ship Of Fools" so that probably supplanted "The Circus" in my mind...

Also, given how much of an indie classic "Just Like Heaven" is, it's funny to remember that it sold not very many as a single.

Take a girl like THAT, and put her in a natural setting.

We got a bit on the Breakers there. Easy to forget how WEIRD that record sounded and how badly it was received. Even Morrissey raised a bushy eyebrow at it on Round Table, wondering aloud if the b-side had been played in error!

Richard Coles looks really uncomfortable standing up with a synth rather than sitting down at a piano. The Communards clearly weren't long for this world.
 
These episodes are eminently skippable. Blue Mercedes were more White Fiesta really, weren't they?

The Housemartins were actually very very good indeed. They crammed a lot into a short lifespan and, heard now, "Build" is clearly the beginning of The Beautiful South in which Heaton would refine this line of his songwriting to tremendous success.
