Old TOTP (BBC4)

See the topic. I only got into them a few months ago and regret not starting earlier. Up to two a week(?) Thursday and or Friday and yes they're in order. You can catch up on about the last 6 on iPlayer which are normally unedited, unlike some of the BBC4 shows which are cut. Currently in spring 1983.

Is it still the case that they are showing the shows twice, one edited and one full?

I have no idea what they show or when as they are all in the Sky+ memory and I just watch them when I'm told.

The BBC have uploaded many of the 1979 editions which can be found at https://archive.org/search.php?query=subject:"Top+of+the+Pops"

That's my favourite year for music so it's absolute heaven for me...

Yeah, the 7.30 showing is edited to 30 mins then the late showings the same night and Saturday are in full. I only found this out recently.

To be frank, it's only really just started getting good. Decent whole episodes (that were shown anyway) were few and far between in the late 70s and very early 80s. 1983 TOTP is the beginning of how I fondly remember the format from my childhood. I think my first memory of it was from 1985/86.

We had BETTER get the superb MUSTACHIOED GAYS doing a REALLY BAD FAN DANCE and SOMEONE DRESSED UP AS A ROBOT footage for 'Automatic' by the Pointer Sisters in 1984 as I think it's been EXPUNGED from youtube

Oh hang on I SPOKE TOO SOON :disco:

Set your videoboxes or whatever they're called these days

Oh the halcyon FUCKED CLONE years :disco:

Pass me that EG DAILY ONE would you love

NOT 1984! Saville ends at the end of 1983, there's no break now.

Also who cares about DLT... who hasn't fondled someone?!
I've just checked, and thankfully we'll only not be able to see 8 episodes from 1984 which were hosted by Smith and as two of them also feature Savile there's still a fair number that we'll be able to see... though DLT hosted a few too so that's more that won't be shown

That scabby whore Sarah Greene needs to keep her SNOUT OUT

Although it does seem rather SUSPICIOUS that they're still acquiescing to her demands. I suspect that there is indeed an undisclosed story as they could surely quite easily say PISS OFF SLUT

I see some posts have been moved from the midweeks thread - I was looking for this thread last night but couldn't find it. As this is a better place for them I can now post some links to some of the missed editions of TOTP from 1983. The most recent one is the edition from 16 June 1983 which wasn't shown on BBC4 as it is co-hosted by DLT

There's only two days left before the above link ceases to work...

'When We Were Young' is my favourite Bucks Fizz single, I just love the drama in the song.

Can I not be ALERTED when my posts are moved because FRANKLY I COULD NOT GIVE A FUCK

UH OH

Paul Young in a SHINY SUIT

High 80s starts right here :wired:

I had a black woolly suit with BLUE THREADS in to go out to NIGHTSPOTS in :argh:

OMG

DER FIZZ have gone all NEW WAVE

Jay has forgotten her skirt and LA CRUDGE is sitting legs akimbo backwards on a chair

OMG YAY

I was worried the performance had been YewSmithed

God that was the HIGHLIGHT OF MY WEEK. I had a total gay squeal when it appeared :disco:

I really do think it was a shame Jay was denied a solo career back in the 80s.

I mean I'm not massively convinced she'd have been hugely successful, but can you imagine the videos? The hair? THE WARDROBE? :disco:

Mr Sheena, not knowing anything about her or the Fizz backstory, cried "God, look at her, she's clearly a RIGHT OLD SLUT" at the TV, which led to the showing of about 10 Fizz videos/ performances just to prove he was VERY RIGHT INDEED. Choice comments included:

(on "Rules Of The Game" and my comment that I thought Cheryl's voice was one of the boys for many years): "Well, your voice deepens when you're an OAP"
(on "Easy Love"): "That outfit would actually be improved by a camel toe" and, quite simply, "FUCK ME, what a WHORE"
(on "London Town"): "This video is like Total Eclipse Of The Heart except in a tube station"

IKR

I mean WHODVTHUNK she was FUCKING THE MANAGER'S HUSBAND ALL ALONG?

WHAT A WOMAN

Oh how I like it when ANY OLD THREAD turns into a chat about the FIZZ

I'd still run along happily if they played a proper gig here. But they never seem to come anywhere near, other than for things like Pride and Let's Rock things. I don't want a 15 minutes compressed GH, thanks very much.

They're going LOADS of places this year but nowhere near enough me either...

Perhaps we should have a FIZZ MOOPMEET

I'm quite sure the only place they were playing in the southwest was REDRUTH

I confess I did just look at their still APPALLING website and noticed it really is impossible.

Can't they get on the Glastonbury line up?

Nick Heywood and Shalamar is a very bland start to the show. The Fizz had better be everything and more.

I'm sure I knew but had completely forgotten that Warren Bacall (tee-hee) who wrote 'When We Were Young' also wrote 'Rules Of The Game' (probably my favourite single of theirs) and 'I'd Like To Say I Love You', 'Oh Suzanne' and 'Thief In The Night', probably the best three singles they never released.

What the FUCK is this Bucks Fizz performance?

On one hand, what a load of OLD SHIT, however it certainly requires repeat viewing.

Had Cambodia happened by this point? I assume this is very much ripping Kim off...

What was that French bollocks last night? It completely passed me by at the time (though '84 was the year I first started being obsessed by TOTP and the charts...)

Y'know I think I prefer IRON MAIDEN to ROMAN HOLLIDAY, whoever the FUCK they were

Can you imagine them sitting in a room, arguing long into the night before someone finally goes "I've got it - we'll call ourselves Jimmy The Hoover" and everyone goes "YEAH!". I mean, really.

Weren't they a Malcolm McLaren product?
