"Almaz" was written about a couple of Eritrean refugees who were neighbours of Crawford's. The man asked Crawford to write a song about his wife, who was named Almaz (which means "diamond" in Amharic, Arabic and a number of other languages). In the song, the singer reflects on their rare form of love. In Crawford's own words, "I witnessed this perfect love affair between them, although she was considerably younger than him. This beautiful couple with their baby. As refugees they were looking for 'a world where love survives'

Wow. I've always assumed he was based on Digging Your Scene and after seeing that performance I was more convinced.

We had a Maths teacher with prominent front teeth who was nicknamed Ratface (not to her face). When the unofficial school magazine did a spoof NOW compilation, they gave her this song and she went fucking mental. It still makes me laugh now.
 
None of this miming crap for Randy Crawford. I remember the record but could not have told you the title. Almaz sounds like somewhere teenagers go to on holiday to get drunk and neck some pills. "She's young and tender" makes the subject of the song sound like a lamb shank.

Siouxsie And The Banshees. Legends. I actually have this performance on a DVD. The outfits are peak 80's goth glam, gotta love it.
 
Fun fact: Siouxsie nearly had this pulled because she hadn't realised Bob Dylan had written the song and she hated him. So Wright mentioning him probs cheesed her off.
