Mick and Pat emerging from behind the decks was ill advised. Did anyone know who Mick was even at the time? No wonder they flipped the credit.

A nice collection of breakers. I do love a bit of Brenda and her Piano in the Dark.
 
A very energetic performance of I Want You Back by Kez especially there. Poor old Jacks looking a bit of the odd one out already.
 
Why did poor old JOYCE sound so HORRIBLY TINNY? Surely we're past the era of the POPS ORCHESTRA by now!

It's good to have these reminders that there were actually complete shit given their post-post-ironic rehabilitation.
 
I retain a soft spot for "These Dreams" by Heart, I must admit. As ubiquitous 80's tosh goes, it is one of the least toshy.

Oh I do like These Dreams. I feel I should investigate more Heart, but then I was scorned when I did the same for T'Pau.
 
Oh jeez..."I'm Not Scared". If only PSBs had given this absolute CHOON to someone who could actually sing. And what a boot in the testes for the rest of the band. "yay, we've got Top Of The Pops!" Patsy - "We?".
 
I remember being quite perplexed by this Aswad record. I only knew them from John Peel's programme where he played their earlier, live-band, deep reggae records. Given that he had stopped playing them, I don't know if the journey into UB40-esque blandness was gradual or a deliberate pitch for hits.
 
"Stay On These Roads" is better than I remember - I have often found this with a-ha mind you, so maybe I was just being a cloth-eared snob at the time.
 
So many of these DJ-fronted records used the same samples...gotta feel for the dancer brought in to pretend to be Chuck D at the behest of Simon Harris.
 
Fuck yeah, Iron Maiden.

Weird that one of Graham Chapman's very last works was a heavy metal video but there y' go.
 
"Everywhere" was clearly the best Fleetwood Mac record (of this era, anyway).
 
I do not remember this Eurovision entry AT ALL. Awful. The seeds of Brexit are clear in our decision to send shite like that off to Europe.
 
Most interesting thing about this AWFUL Brookes/Wright episode is Adele Bertei's total lack of enthusiasm.
 
Danny Wilson. I liked their second album at the time but they've not aged well and "Mary's Prayer" is annoying, as well as not really representing them. I remember Nicky Campbell announcing their split and sounding properly gutted.
 
Didn't realise Jermaine Stewart had died so young. This was possibly covered upthread but I missed it.
 
"Pat & Mick" remains Glasgow rhyming slang for "sick", mainly in the context of having a line from yr doctor. i.e. "Octy's off Pat & Mick at the minute". What a legacy.

Actually, in fairness, they did fuck off pretty fast. Split whilst demoing a 2nd album, IIRC.

Edit - seems like the label cobbled a second album together and it did fuck all. Fair.

She has a weird national treasure status up here. Works her heart out around New Year and through to Burns Night and makes enough to take the rest of the year off.
 
I remember buying 'Patience Of Angels' on CD single. Guessing that must be around '95 or so.
 
Main thing that gets forgotten about S-Express is that it launched Pascal Gabriel's career as a producer/engineer/co-writer and he has worked with a slew of Moopy favourites.
 
Comedy records were a particular blight on 1988.

I have no memory of hearing this Narada single before.
 
The SMUGGERY dialled right up for this one even by Pellow standards. Even his delivery of a simple 'ooh' manages to be completely infuriating.
 
BILLY BRAGG was much better although he really MUFFED IT UP singing it live on the POPS
