Did I also hear that Bruno said Depeche Mode’s latest album would be called ‘Wild’? I’m sure Erasure were a bit put out at that suggestion. And obviously Andy and Vince won the fight.
 
I think I lost an episode or two due to indolence...oh well...starting back with The Primitives...sounding oddly pre-baggy. Good tune this, should have done better.
 
Now I know The Kinks original of "Days", I struggle to find the energy for Kirsty MacColl's version. There always a wee sad twinge when I see her doing anything tho'.
 
Now, I hadn't recalled that post-Ken Bros had debuted so high with their comeback single. Nor could I recall a fucking thing about it.
 
I always assume Gun were bigger that they actually were because they're a Glasgow band and therefore had the usual local venue-inflation that Scottish bands almost always experience. I think the played the Barrowlands on the tour that followed this single.
 
A piece of nicely rendered nothing from McCartney. His catalogue is absolutely full of songs like this - they sound just lovely but it's like an easter egg - there's fuck all inside it.
 
This Transvision Vamp is better than the last one...but I'm a sucker for that (bom bom-bom DDSSHH rhythm).

She was also amazing for sales of pink lipstick.

TOTP really were picking weird bits out of songs at this time...starting on the 2nd verse or in the middle of the chorus and cutting out halfway through the next one...
 
This was what went wrong with Top Of The Pops. When they started having "exclusives" (which is only a few years away) rather than just covering the charts, it was things like Dogs D'Amour that got the chop. There were no more "WTF?" moments.
 
First sighting of Betty Boo. Super cheap indie video. Not one person looking even remotely comfortable.

I seem to remember "French Kiss" being considered filth in some quarters due to the moaning in the bit when it slowed down.

...and it's still fucking brilliant.
 
Black Box. It was quite the summer for vocalists who didn't appear on the records (Pump Up The Jam isn't far away, IIRC).
 
I think I'd forgotten how big that Alice Cooper record was. Decent tho'.

The full Martika perf was quite the delight too.
 
I remember critics disparaging "Self", claiming it was pinched from Boston's "More Than a Feeling" (it's not really). Then, when Nirvana absolutely pinched it really very blatantly a couple of years later, that was fine of course. One wonders why... :eyes:

Had forgotten how hard this rocked. Fuzzbox were ace.
 
"Kisses On The Wind" is definitely the under-appreciated middle child of the "Raw Like Sushi" singles. Utterly ace.
 
I don't want to start rumours but does anyone else think Freddie Mercury is looking a bit peaky in this Queen video? :(
 
That'll do for now...starting to think 1989 wasn't as bad as all that, some really great records in that wee batch of episodes.
