A strange tale but to be fair, their second album was dreadful. A complete misfire. I can only assume the label at the time had no patience for a third attempt.

The industry has been kinder over time and despite their flash in the pan success, the debut album is largely recognised now as an important moment in hip hop and even overall as a 90s album.

They’re no ATCQ Or De La Soul, though.
 
The early January lull in full effect for the first 1993 show.

That Jesus Jones song was a lot of nothing, Little Angels pretty poor and We Are Raving a real low.
 
I think this episode with We Are Raving on it is perhaps the worst I've seen since they started showing the repeats from the mid seventies or whenever it was.
 
I'll take Apache Indian and Snap. The rest has been execrable.
 
The second 1993 episode was a great improvement. Sybil and her shape throwing back ups for starters :disco:

I have no memory of Sunscreem doing that song (not that I would have known it was a cover at the time anyway). Ordinary World is still a treat and Warren Duran really was beautiful.
 
Faith No More's surprisingly straight cover of Easy with its video of the group having a piss-up with a bunch of drag queens and trans women was an event in their career made all the more peculiar by the fact it was an actual hit.

IIRC, the guitarist got the sack soon after.
 
Shame we only got a tiny snippit of The The's "Dogs Of Lust" - great single from their best album.
 
Sweet Harmony is a good track but Jon Marsh looks so uncomfortable. The Beloved went from a quartet to a duo to a solo project which puts a question mark over the group's name if nothing else.
 
Took our poor dead Eileen to point out to me that 2 Unlimited's No Limit had the same main riff as The Fall's Squid Lord from 1988 (starts about 0:16).

 
The Usura video facemorphing Thatcher into Stalin and Iain Paisley into Mary Whitehouse would be an anti-BBC front page from The Fail these days.
 
East 17's success is simultaneously bewildering and entirely obvious. Quite why one of them is just miming bass (having clearly never touched the thing before) and some poor lassie is just standing there vibing is beyond me but this is a music industry that had the money to spend on a specially designed set for a Top Of The Pops appearance.

Is that for Deep? I think they said TOTP did that ludicrous setting to divert attention away from the song clearly being about oral sex.

For me this is the era when I lived at home with way too much disposable income and bought albums by loads of people I only vaguely liked.

For me that would have been my Virgin Megastore staff discount 1999-2002. One of the worst periods for music and I bought so much crap.
 
I got rid of all the CDs I didn't want. I still have boxes of old VHS video cassettes in the garage though. What alternative is there to landfill?

He looks no happier second time around but props for having a stage set entirely made up of giant polystyrene sperm.
 
Can't remember why Vienna was reissued...nor did I remember that Tom Jones version of All You Need Is Love at all.

I looked it up myself as I had no memory of it either.

In 1993 "Vienna" was re-released by Chrysalis, to promote the Midge Ure/Ultravox greatest hits compilation If I Was: The Very Best of Midge Ure & Ultravox. This reissue peaked at number 13 on the UK Singles Chart.[19] Like the compilation album, the single also included songs by Midge Ure (as B-sides).

This reminds me that yesterday marked the 42nd anniversary of Lulu (and some frump) being a cunt to Sheena Easton.

 
I didn’t realise Diana King did the female vocals for Mr. Loverman. Maybe it was just for live performances.

Got to the debut for Jamiroquai now.

Definite "4th single from the album" vibe to this Stereo MCs track.
