"Are You Gonna Go My Way" actually sounds decent. It's got a good thwack to it. That twiddly riff becomes annoying after a bit tho'.
 
McCartney's 'Hey Jude' rewrite is especially limp. It's interesting to recall that this album did quite poorly but The Beatles 'Anthology' was being filmed by now which would be a massive selling project, especially in the US. He would then ride in with the Flaming Pie album that actually sold well and was reviewed well.
 
Did we lose an episode for some reason? Saint Etienne definitely did TOTP for You're In a Bad Way...?
 
Never could work out what Shaggy was singing on Oh Carolina - just popped up the subtitles. Decades old mystery solved: "prowl off, jump and prance".
 
The appeal of Bryan Ferry was always a bit lost on me. I like the first few Roxy Music albums but, after that, I'm a bit lost. This version of A Put A Spell On You is just slick white funk, totally flattened out.
 
Christ "Stick It Out"...."From the top of a tall erection...BUILDING, BUILDING! IT'S A BUILDING" still tickles me for some reason. Other than that, hideous.
 
I'm sure there was a proper reason as to why Suede couldn't perform on TOTP at the last minute rather than Brett's voice but I can't remember what it was...maybe that was just gossip. Animal Nitrate still an absolute banger tho' - hasn't lost an atom of its seedy sheen in the intervening years.
 
Early 1993 was not the best. By this time, I was losing my indie snob garments and was heading into other waters...Stereolab, Moonshake and Aphex Twin were new favourites and some of the shoegazers were getting further and further out. But I also still loved Blur and 1994 would be excellent fun in chart terms.

Meantime, here's the always tedious Runrig. Boak.

'Bad Girl' has always been a favourite of mine as well.
 
Just watching Janet's That's The Way Love Goes performance. Loved how restrained, controlled and yet effortlessly cool it was.

Her TTWLG/If performance at the MTV VMAs that year was truly brilliant. It was a bit forgotten in favour of later more flashy/gimmicky performances from others, but it blows them all away in hindsight:

 
I have no memory of this Jimmy Somerville-Voice of the Beehive cover. It is a little rough.

The 'Shabba Ranks is a bigot' t-shirt though :D
 
1993 really isn't calling me back...I think an episode or two may have expired on me but here we go again and I;m greeted with a horrid Sister sledge remix...same year The Fall did their cover of it which proved oddly popular on the airwaves.
 
I was never sure if TOTP never invited iron Maiden onto the show or if they refused or what the relationship was. I think they refused to mime or something but New Order played live several times. Oh well.
 
Shabba Ranks. In the days immediately before he became better known for his homophobia than his music. Utter prick. How fitting that today, he is nothing more than a slang term for wanking.
 
Jamiroquai in his early Stevie Wonder impersonation phase. Fucking rubbish.
 
I have no memory at all of this Hue & Cry remix. Like absolutely none. It's awful but then, so were they.

Whilst I was never a fan of Big Country, I always feel a wee bit :( when I see Stuart Adamson. He was obviously talented and I always felt his death was particularly sad.
 
Didn;t notice at the time that the drummer of The Bluebells wore the t-shirt of his (and the singer's) current band on TOTP!
 
David Bowie drops his best single in a decade ("Jump They Say") but we get Cliff and Lulu. These episodes really are a chore.
 
Peter Cunnah really is highly irritating.

I do quite like that Robert Plant song. I would never have known it was him mind.
 
What's the Robert Plant song? I've found myself liking a few of his modern songs in recent years for SOME REASON
 
Another rough episode. I am grateful for Saint Etienne as ever, and especially for Pete Wiggs in a crown.

That Runrig song though, and Felix managed to lose all the joy and life in Sylvester's Stars.
 
Just catching up on last week's episode. Suede and Ace of Base obviously the highlights. Lisa was good too, though that was a very shiny wig.

The song was decent but not feeling Roland without Curt in Tears For Fears.
 
I skipped may way through a few episodes last week but could not find a thing to say about any of them!

Back in now...
