I was finding no memory of any of this - I've just checked and this is the episode from the week my mum passed so I'm likely seeing this wee run of episodes for the first time.

Looks like I missed NOWT - even Lisa Stansfield is blander than magnolia wallpaper.

He gets a pass for being a good laugh (just ask Bob Mortimer) but this is absolute shit.
 
An exclusive from Jean-Michel Jarre, just what all the kids were GAGGING FOR in late 1993. Just cos you;ve turned yr drum machine up a few BPM doesn't make your wispy pish any more interesting, Jean. No wonder Brexit happened.
 
Lena Fiagbe - this at least feels like it has some actually blood in its veins. Nice raspy soul voice. Yeah, not bad at all.
 
"Play Dead" - great song. I;d forgotten it actually did a bit better in the charts than her other singles. In fact, is this the one that started 'Debut' really selling? I remember it being added to the album...
 
David Hasselhoff, who signed this off? Big in Germany? A defense with terrifying precedents...
 
I mean, of course Mariah Carey can sing but the songs are so boring and bland. How did she allow herself to be fed slop like "Hero"?
 
Aerosmith actually live in the studio? I do not recall this at all...As rawk ballads go, Cryin' is absolutely unremarkable but quite fun to watch Steve Tyler sweat and howl his way through it.
 
Pauline Henry - again, great voice, awful Casio preset backing track, as bland as a supermarket frozen lasagna. Sometimes, I think that streaming killing off the quick cover version wasn't a bad thing at all.
 
The Shamen's mushroom motif isn't exactly subtle. Not so good this one; they've absorbed a bit too much of that hippy gaia/earth mother stuff that was being chucked about at the time, dreamcatchers sold in Doroty Perkins and all that shit.
 
Gonna watch this episode from '83...take my mind off how bad the end of 93 was. Yet I remember 1993 as a good year for music. Oddness.
 
It's a shame that Madness did their in-studio appearance for "The Sun And The Rain" when someone who we no longer broadcast was presenting. One of their most underappreciated singles.

It is properly remarkable how successful she was. Times must have been LEAN.
 
Dina's live vocals have often been surprisingly on the edge in these shows.

Her best era was as the flop dance diva who couldn't get her third album released :(

This Bryan Adams song was a proper hit but in my mind his career jumps from Robin Hood to Mel C...

In fact he was pretty huge in 1996 too. The 18 Til I Die album had some real bangers and he was still playing stadiums with sets made up of new material!

Really? I can't find that in my brain at all...maybe when I hear some of the songs.
 
Couldn't have told you that Little Fluffy Clouds had been reissued in 93 either - I must have seriously checked out around this time, to a greater extent than I;d imagined.
 
I love that Kiki Dee's real name is Pauline. The power of showbiz; Elton John and Kiki Dee, not Reg and Pauline. This was inescapable on the radio.
