Duran Duran exhibiting terrible timing - the original Perfect Day would enjoy a revival via the Trainspotting soundtrack with a year of this.
 
Curve never appeared on Top Of The Pops, did they? Toni Halliday's here with Leftfield and Dean Garcia appeared with Eurythmics but they never did it together, did they?

"Original" is OK but it feels a bit like Leftfield trying to do Massive Attack's "Protection" complete with indie chanteuse.
 
Simon Mayo's topical banter is complete lost - I cannot remember any of the news stories he's referencing. Pondering them is a distraction from how shit this Simple Minds song is, mind you.
 
To my surprise, this Menswear song actually sounds OK. It's absolutely an amalgam of bits from the big Britpop bands of the time (except Oasis) but at least they've pinched good bits to staple together; slinky bass riffs, sloppy wah guitars and some decent drumming.
 
'Doll Parts' is the best Hole song by several thousand miles although the full band version is inferior to the solo take Courtney Love recorded for the BBC. There was a certain power to her standing there singing "someday, you will ache like I ache" at that time.

Mind you, she'd had Kirsten Pfaff murdered by that time so, you know...

Bucketheads too - my very brief clubbing career was around this time and this one always had the Garage bouncing. Even as a determined curmudgeon, there was more joy in that than in many of the more intense heavy techno nights I went to.
 
The late Ranking Roger, nice to see him. The charts could do with a splash of reggae - we're in the period when it really fell away now.

Love City Groove. I remember Terry Wogan's Eurovision commentary that year, being semi-apologetic about the UK trying something different. It sounds even more contrived now than it did at the time.
 
What was Phill Jupitus known for in 1995? Never Mind The Buzzcocks didn't start until a year or two later, IIRC?

Yeah, I knew that, he just seemed like a really obscure choice for presenting TOTP. I remember when he was "Porky The Poet" and directing Billy Bragg's videos. Someone at the BBC must have liked him between this, Buzzcocks and being one of the first DJs on what is now 6Music.
 
Shane MacGowan and Sinead O'Connor. I mean, this is pretty rotten and The Pogues original is much better but any sight of Sinead is enough to break the heart right now isn't it?
 
The Adina Howard performance, if you could CALL IT THAT, was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.

I'm calling for Top of the Pops to cancelled, even if it takes 11 years.

I love Celine Dion, obviously, but Only One Road is one of her dullest singles. She really must have been living at the TOTP Studio through 1995.
 
Yes by McAlmont & Butler is such a forgotten banger.

Programming Elton John directly after his non-union Mexican equivalent Joshua Kaddison feels a bit cruel, even if the former wasn't flogging anything to write home about. (Made in England)

Surrender Your Love was very much the lesser of their two big hits, but I think it still has merit.
 
I don't understand the Scatman performance. He's singing live slightly over the original track. It's rather jarring.
