I'm sure I remember The Honeyz admitting on The Big Reunion that the reason they never sang live at their peak was because the random French one was utterly tone deaf and a complete liability.

It would track with their curious insistence on miming these very static Finally Found perfs.

Am I imagining it, or did we have an Alisha's Attic forum on dot?

And how sobering that these repeats have hit the point where we were a community.

God I hadn't even considered that!

But yes, I do remember a HIGHLY ACTIVE Alisha's Attic Dot forum when I joined. I think I even managed to get us a Mandy Moore forum for a brief period, so clearly the bar wasn't high.

Aerosmith are going to be hanging around the next few weeks of this show like the stench of Steven Tyler's mid-concert gusset, aren't they. :zombie:

Relax by Deetah was produced by DIRE STRAITS?

That really does sound like some kind of Madlib/Celebrity Foo Bump crossover event.

Tempted to start a thread about forgotten number 2 hits - "Top of the World" by Brandy & Ma$e would surely feature. I like it but this must have been carried by the momentum of "The Boy Is Mine".

We really are in a bit of a rut at the moment, which is a shame as I was so looking forward to this era.

Yet more Savage Garden and Steps re-runs, a bunch of forgotten indie bands (and Ash I guess), a Godawful cover of Stand By Me and the worst Billie single.

Thank God for Ace of Base, but even they performed the rather plodding album version of Cruel Summer instead of the far superior BIG BONUS mix.

I now realise that there is a MARGINALLY larger audience than the tiny band of girls on the beach itself - but who decided to have them all lurking at the side?!

Losing it at Billie performing for about EIGHT PEOPLE down the beach in France.
But on the long shots they aren’t there. The audience at the side look bored.

Why was Billie there in Cannes?!

Why are the green screens so bad? Haha

I quite like 4 The Cause but understand why the two who did the second verse weren’t given the first verse.

I thought I liked that Republica single but it’s really nothing. And Saffron was just annoying.

Did anyone else’s broadcast of the second episode seem to miss the start and go straight to Jenny of Ace of Base mid sentence (not a great live vocal!). Linn really not wanting to get on camera.

We do seem to be in a slight rut at the moment following a blazing summer. Cher is about to save us!

The Eternal special (I know, but it came on) is somewhat interesting. I know she’s widely mocked on here, but Louise is actually a rather good dancer and certainly very charismatic. Given the time and era she was very convincing compared to some of her peers.

That and Monica's The First Night were hugely aired on music video channels and got great promo in this regard. Absolutely because of TBIM, but they were well deserved hits. Gotta remember peak Moesha (1996-2001) was around this time too.

Is she though? I think she has a small but dedicated following on the moopy domain.

Louise got a lot of credit for Naked, which was hyped as a big deal with her US choreographers and her being up to the task. Of course, teenbop me likely sponged up select tid bits from the era :disco:

Crowds were already amassing at this beach instead:

That it was 6 years off just shows how highly anticipated it was and that BP had no chance.

I don't know if it genuinely felt fresher back in '98. But what a FLIMSY BIT OF NOTHING Top Of The World was. A glorified album track riding on coattrails.

I do recall UB40 having a surprise rugby adjacent hit a few years later, but I can't remember if it made TOTP or not.

I love Brandy shrieking “sing along if you know the words” yet no one does as it was a pre recorded performance from when The Boy Is Mine was in the charts and On Top Of The World had yet to make it to radio.

Also brave considering the average TOTP audience were the WALKING DEAD at the best of times!

I’ve been reading through the Music Week magazines from Autumn 1998. That rut is about to end and the chart get turbo charged. There’s a week where the whole Top 5 are new entries and a week where 7 of the Top 10 are new entries as everyone rushes to get a single out before Christmas.

And the reign of Cher.

Withtout googling, my guess is: Cher (#1), Alanis (#5), Culture Club, U2 and I forget the 5th (George Michael!) I always remember it being remarked on by The Big Breakfast.

Ooh are these online?

I seem to remember it being another plot point on the Big Reunion, but it’s so funny watching back how the blonde from B*Witched was transparently about ten years older than the rest of the group :D

The First Night is decent but never quite elevates beyond its sample for me.

I recently read what happened to Monica shortly after this and fucking hell it’s dark.

What was the sample (didn't know there was one) & what happened to Mon after this hit? :o

It's Love Hangover by Diana Ross

Monica's career slowed down in 1999 due to problems in her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jarvis Weems. In July 2000, the couple were together at the gravesite of Weems's brother, who had died in an automobile accident at age 25 in 1998. Weems then, without warning, put a gun to his head and committed suicide.
