Old TOTP (BBC4)

You have to wonder how many younger stars this Cliff Richard song trickled down through before it landed in his inbox

The backing singers looking actively mortified is sending me. :D

This will come as a surprise to no-one, but when I tell you I was OBSESSED with All 'Bout The Money back in 98.

God George really should have released Outside a bit earlier. What a fabulous final solo number one that would've been.

Fun fact: Gym and Tonic could actually have been a #1 hit for Jane Fonda, but the silly old cow (or more likely whoever was representing her at the time) refused to clear the sample, so Spacedust snuck in with a soundalike re-record instead.

It's Love Hangover by Diana Ross

Monica's career slowed down in 1999 due to problems in her relationship with ex-boyfriend Jarvis Weems. In July 2000, the couple were together at the gravesite of Weems's brother, who had died in an automobile accident at age 25 in 1998. Weems then, without warning, put a gun to his head and committed suicide.

WTF on both counts :o

I’m sorry but not one smirky comment about the Beautiful South singing “when he’s at my gate with a BIG FAT EIGHT”??

Lee from 911’s hair being the precursor to Gareth Gates haircut. Also the flute in More Than A Woman is so annoying and shrill.

Hurrah to the return of the seven huns from Cannes dancing in front of 911 (who are absent from the long shots). Turns out the Cannes clips were part of trying to sell the show internationally.

I hate that Beautiful South song so much.

They always seemed so aggressively middle aged to me as a kid. Quite sobering to realise I’m now older than Paul Heaton was when they recorded it.

A truly legendary top 5 in the first episode this week. :disco:

I Just Wanna Be Loved a lovely little throwback from Culture Club. Shame the accompanying album was such a messy flop, but that's George and co!

A Little Bit of Lovin' :disco:

Kele Le Roc yet another black British talent who really didn't get the long term career she deserved.

On Cher:

"She's no spring chicken, but she's still a top bird"

Show some BLOODY RESPECT Theakston!

Maya and her troupe of homosexual dancers are certainly giving it their all in this performance of If You Buy This Record... :D

I wonder whatever became of her?

It really shouldn't have taken Fatman Scoop to turn Love Like This into a hit. The original is such a treat.

:D at that shot of the painfully white teenagers attempting to get down to Faith Evans' sultry RnB riffing.

I'd forgotten East 17 managed to eke out another sizeable hit this late in the game...

I'd also entirely forgotten the song, which hearing it now is rather less surprising...

I do remember this Wyclef Jean butchering of Another One Bites The Dust, but I wish I didn't... :zombie:

"Yo Freddie, where you at?"

HE'S DEAD, LUV

The BELLE of BELFAST CITY not invited to give a TOTP performance despite multiple weeks in the top 20 for Tell Me Ma. :(
