Olly Murs songs you like

Went through his Wikipedia discography to jog my memory and everything I'd have mentioned has been mentioned already. Troublemaker is probably the obvious "best" but my god I'm glad we've left the stripey top and a trilby cheeky chappy zeitgeist behind.

To confirm as someone who has an Essex mum and aunties, yes they love him and have seen him several times. Sorry.

The only reason I'm bothering to post is because I'm agog he has a recent Christmas single called COMING OFF THE SNOW ❄️ :eyes: what would Mumsnet say?

Oh COMING reminds me! Wasn't he briefly cancelled for a video where he tricked a girl into fondling his member?

Latest single Bonkers is a new low, actually worse than the title suggests.

His upcoming album is called KNEES UP :zombie:

I can't say I liked his last one (forget what it was called), but do think it would have been huge had he released it in his prime. Which I guess just shows that it sounds like it's about 15 years old. I'll avoid the new one as long as Radio 2 allows me to.

No matter how much he goes to the gym, I still feel Olly Murs would smell of WARM CHEDDAR

He seems to be having a bit of a mid-life crisis. The body transformations, the recent rantings about not getting sufficient respect from the industry...

If he is retiring I'm going to make a bold prediction that it won't last.

Which ones the ‘ello I was dropped on my head one that has gone viral on the TikTok's sharts for all the wrong reasons

What for?
It’s pretty brutal to be honest. I try to avoid it but there’s an avalanche of it. His album is shite fair enough but it just smacks of nobodies online trying to get leverage / go viral

I’m more surprised anyone on TikTok even discusses him or his new music.

One of his songs begins

This morning I made myself a brew
Sat myself down to read the news
Someone said I'd been spotted nude
In Tesco by the mangoes in an old pair of shoes

He can't even do Des'ree rhyming correctly :oi:

This retirement announcement seems like a STROP, i'm sure he'll be back peddling soon

Although, a touring production of Jersey Boys, beckons

I don't think realistically he has that much of a future as a recording artist releasing new material, and he probably knows that. But he'll maintain a media presence well enough as a DJ/presenter, I'm sure. And I imagine he'll always have enough of an audience to do live shows every few years if he feels like it.

I imagine Lolly's assessment is half right.

He must know he won't be scoring big streaming hits. But the fact he's done an album at all suggests he hasn't entirely given up, and I wonder if this new direction was his thinking there might be a niche for a new CHAS AND DAVE.

Has he really said he is going to retire? How odd. Sure, he’s not going to get another hit with new music, but so what? He’s in his forties and he’s very much a relic of his era. A quick look at Spotify and he has pretty good stats from his old stuff for a UK-centric artist, and can quite happily chug along doing shows for years to come I’d assume. I would assume there is still perfectly fine amounts of money for him to make simply being a ‘legacy’ artist and using it to fund whatever he wants to put out?

Randomly, I do remember him making comments at the time of You Don’t Know Love that airplay should be brought into the UK charts because he is #1 or something there, but streaming only allows the song to just make the top twenty. Which is quite chart-orientated and seemed a bit bitter, so I guess he might feel defined by his chart success more than he should.

Very much standard. Last week's #1 (Aerosmith) dropped even further to #151.

I'd still imagine it's a disappointment for Olly, given it means all he's really accompolished this era is becoming a meme.
